My company asked if I’d be interested in running a job there for 8-12 months beginning February 2021. I’d be making a little more salary wise but they will actually pay me time and a half for every hour I work after 50 hours each week. They’ll also being paying for a fully furnished rental house for me and the utilities while I’m there, I’ll also have a new work truck to travel to and from site. On top of that, they will also pay me per diem.

I’d return to my office in Baton Rouge November 2021- February 2022. It’s not mandatory I go. They just offered, meaning they really want me to run the project. They may make it mandatory but I highly doubt it.

This would start in February of 2021 and was just curious if anyone was familiar with the area. I don’t have kids so don’t have to worry about school and don’t have a wife.

TIA

I don't know anything about the area or your line of work but I, like you, have no wife and kids. I would go for it.

If you like vinegar based pulled pork BBQ, you'll love it...

I've never lived there, but traveled eastern NC extensively for a job right out of grad school (20+ years ago). It's a small town in the sand hills of eastern NC. It's really no different than any number of small southern town from NC to Texas (with all that entails good and bad).

You're 2 1/2 hours from the coast, 1 hour from the "big city" of Raleigh and 3 hours to the mountains. If you like to hunt and/or fish, there are some great opportunities around the area.

Shouldn't that be 40? Are you exempt or non-exempt?

Oh and Sanford is a shithole.

Absolute no-brainer, then.

Do you hunt? Some excellent hunting not far from there at Anderson Creek Hunting Preserve. I bought a German Shorthair from them a few years ago and have gone back to hunt him there once a year.

It's pretty quiet (and boring) down in Sanford but you won't be far from Raleigh/Durham, Greensboro, etc. A lot of decent little Carolina country towns nearby. I recommend you drive out to Maple View Farms in Hillsborough, sit in a rocking chair on their porch, eat some ice cream and enjoy the day.

I had a hunting lease there about 9 years ago. The Applebee’s is always bumping!

Sounds like free lodging to experience something different for a year. NC has nice weather and you can do day or weekend trips around there and see other things.

Lots of Hispanics there. Good Mexican food.

Sounds like a really good deal. Would ask about policy for paid trips home, though. If you have roots here (family or friends etc...) you might want them to foot the bill for a flight once/month. Also if you have a boat or something, make sure company policy doesn't prohibit trailer hitches. Dumb as that may seem, I briefly worked for a dumbass out of NC that gave us company trucks and prohibited trailer hitches.

You're from Baton Rouge, anywhere in NC is probably better.

This is like a wife asking if you want to go to the grocery store with her. You are going, it’s just a matter of whether it’s your choice or their choice. Choose to go before they tell you that you are going.

And, you’d have to explain the downside of moving away from BR for 18 months for more money and bills being paid. I am missing it so far in your description.

Sanford itself is boring and just like every other small town in the south, has its good and bad areas.

Pretty solid location overall though. Very close to Pinehurst and Southern Pines, which is nice. Pittsboro and Raleigh suburbs like Holly Springs, Fuquay, and Apex are no more than 30-45 min away...lots to do in those places. You’re also closer to the beaches than if you were in Raleigh or Greensboro

You can go wrong in NC, weather is awesome.

I'd go for it.
