Finally. Everyone like it until it turns into a soggy quagmire.

It's the sidelines, who cares? You cant see that grass during games anyway because its covered up by over 100 people, benches, equipment and that gray mat they put down over the grass anyway.

Surprised at how much sand is underneath . Would have guessed the ground underneath the sod would have looked more like dirt . Drainage reasons maybe
Wouldn’t have thought the grass would grow really fast over a sandy surface.

This has been known for some time. Part of the largest renovation project since 2005 I believe.

Good. Advantage will go to the team with speed which will always be LSU. We’ll be even more lethal and won’t have any slopfest games like auburn last year
How does having artificial turf on the sidelines area surrounding the field, even remotely correlate to performance? It doesn't...….

Grass grows amazingly well on a sand subsurface actually. Hard to believe it I know. It has something to do with artificial nutrients I believe. World class golf courses are built in desert locations directly on the native soils. It’s very interesting to watch them do it. Also, that is most likely a special type of sand that is brought in to match the particular type of grass and the native conditions. It’s all extremely high tech agronomy.

I’ll trust the guys that have turf management degrees to know what’s best.

Should have just made the away sideline turf so they can bake over there in the sun in Sept and Oct. Talk about home field advantage

Maybe for maintenance it was the way to go? LSU's field has a nice crown to it and the water drains to the sidelines, so maybe turf there makes it more manageable to handle water run off. Of course I don't have a degree in field and turf management science, so could be all incorrect. Regardless, arse long as the playing surface is grass, I am ok with it.

This Thread is very specifically talking about the sideline. Also the sideline is where most people will be standing except for 22 players on the field and some refs. Didn’t we have a long discussion last September how hot turf is compared to grass? Won’t the sideline be scorching hot absorbing all that heat?

The playing surface is natural grass turf
The sidelines/surround is artificial turf

There is a layer of stone over the drainage followed by a 12” layer of sand, then the grass which they started installing yesterday

The entire drainage system was removed and improved.

Will be as good as it gets for a grass playing surface.

Then why not make the title "Looks like turf is coming to TS sidelines"

You're getting blasted because of your crappy, click-bait title.
