One location of Another Broken Egg has cracked.

HAHAHA there are a few people on here that will get a kick out of that.

ETA: I'm not one. I hate to see restaurants fail.

Waffle House is much cheaper and just as good. I don't know how you can keep a business going selling only breakfast food and light lunches (if they even did that). I heard they were pricey, too.

If Waffle House is cheaper and good but you heard they were pricey what is it? How do you know if they are better if you haven't been?

Another Broken Egg has good breakfast including grillades and grits and items you won't find at Waffle House. Pricey? Not really according to what they serve. I like it and it's not anymore expensive than LaMadeliene or Camelia Grill.

Wait you claimed Waffle House was "just as good" then said you "heard they were pricey, too"

So you have never eaten there but know that Waffle House is just as good

His two locations are bound to fail. The O'Neal location should have never been opened in the first place then he cut hours (Something a breakfast place CANNOT do) The Old Hammond location is a death trap for any restaurant with the rent they are charging. I give them a limited time there. Mandinas left because of the rent.. if they have to leave bc of it then how will a pricey breakfast place last there?

Mandina's didn't leave because of the rent. Mandina's bought the building for 1.1 million and 4 months later sold the building to Another Broken Egg for 1.6. Not a bad return and Mandina's sucked anyway. The note may kill them but at least they have a mortgage.

Guy at Mandina's was always complaining about the cost of being there.. Assumed he was taking about rent. It wasnt as good as it is in NO for some reason.. But that type of place should do better than a breakfast place.

I liked it, only for the burgers.

They have/had one of the best burgers in town.

Oh the anger!

I never went because I heard it was very busy and their ads never emphasized the variety on their menu. I assumed it was just a breakfast joint. All I'm saying is that breakfast food is cheap (even though it has a high profit margin), and it must be tough to keep good staff members happy and pay the bills. Especially when you close relatively early. You have a small window for profit each day.

I really liked it when we went. I got the floridian omellete that had cream cheese and crab meat in it. It was really great (and I hate eggs..so that means it was good). The prices weren't that bad- I ate off of my omelette for three meals. They were huge! They always had people waiting to get in when I passed it.

nobody's getting a "kick" out of a business failing in baton rouge .. a few of us that were broken egg regulars early on complained about them closing on mondays and tuesdays all of a sudden and cutting back their hours to open at 8AM on WED-SUN .. which was late for a breakfast place .. the owner came on here and was pretty arrogant and pompous about it and tried to blame everyone but himself .. a few of our "expert" restaurant MBA posters hopped in in his defense .. which was cool ... but the funny thing was, two months later, he went back to his old hours, hence so much for the pompousness and/or our restaurant MBAers thinking we lay people are culinary business morons that don't have a clue ..

i was just mainly taken aback by an owner's pompousness when he had legitimate patrons telling him what was disappointing them about his restaurant .. in business, you don't blow off or brush aside the people that critique you, because they want you to get better and want to do business with you .. you worry about the people that leave, say nothing, and never come back .. that's a dangerous FORMER customer ..

in the end, the monster note on old hammond is what ate him up and he just couldn't keep two stores open .. that's all .. it is ashame because it is a really good place ..

I love the broken egg in Mandeville. It is in a little cottage and has some outdoor seating. It is perfect for a stop after a early morning bike ride or something.
His location in Destin apparantly does very well, so I guess location has alot to do with it. I agree, you better be selling alot of breakfast if you want to make any money. This is why I can't see Camillia Grill making it in there new locations. They are building one in Baton Rouge and Destin. Both places will have sky high overheads.

As for Waffle House- You couldn't pay me to eat there.

I ate there quite often. You obvoiusly know nothing about the restaurant.
Oh where to begin? The last time I ate at waffle house a roach crawled out from under my plate causing me to vomit at the table. I noticed my sever itching her arse before plating the food she also had to cook me. My silverware had somebody elses food on it still, and my server was semi high. It was a delightful experience. I don't know what they serve for lunch because I have never been there for anything besides breakfast.
As for Another Broken Egg...
There is NO COMPARISON. They have very simple breakfast as well as gourmet. There lunches are impeccable...

They have a BBQ meatloaf sandwich that will curl your toes. A pot roast poboy that can run with even the best New Orleans roast beef. They have my favorite Crab cake and shrimp alfredo, they have crabmeat au gratin, some Redish dish my friend loves. You can order a burger at 7:30 in the morning or a breakfast at 1:00 p.m. They have the best banana's foster sauce I have EVER eaten and I am from New Orleans. Light lunch? I am confused. The only thing I have to complain about is that I now have to drive to Old Hammond when I get off of work in the morning, I was spoiled with the one on O'Neal lane.

Oh yeah, they don't have liquor at the one on Old Hammond either. I want to complain about that because I love the Bloody Marys.

I will never ever eat at Waffle House either. You had the roach and I had a mouse run across our table after we placed our order. You had the waitress that scratched her arse. We had the waitress that was picking her nose whole putting the food on the plates. We never ate at the Waffle House that day. We simply left. I can do without a mouse and a waitress digging for gold.

Mandina's BR started off great - drinks and food were up to their N.O. standards. But as the original reopened (thank God!) and the NOLA staff went home, the standards were not kept up. Food varied and the drinks (well, the Sazeracs) sucked! Shame.

Havne't tried ABE yet, but will.

That bldg will always be Chalet Brandt to me however......

yeah .. basically, mandina's and galatoire's jumped the gun right after katrina and immediately bought into the doom and gloom prognostications that it would take NO 30 years to come back .. obviously, it came back to a reasonable level FAR sooner than expected ... mandina's got caught in the "war profits" real estate circle that was going on here right after katrina .. they got lucky that someone was crazy enough to not only pay that much for that location, but actually pay enough for mandina's to actually profit off of their short existence here .. i am personally surprised galatoire's hasn't skipped town already too ..
