Your own link states otherwise...

Is there a credit for housing and meal plans if I check out before the end of the semester?
quote:
HOUSING:
Yes. Housing credits are being determined based on the housing contract and Louisiana law. There’s no blanket refund amount since room rate, rent paid, date of check out and more go into factoring the credit amount. Our business team can help you with that information.
Here are some examples to help you see the range:
These would be the credit amounts if you were to check out of campus housing on March 18, 2020:
In a traditional, double occupancy room (Miller and Acadian Halls, for example) = $538.00 credit
In a typical residential college = $890.00 credit
In a typical 4-bedroom apartment (ECA/WCA) = $748.00
To receive your credit, check your billing statement in myLSU seven (7) business days after you check out to see your credit. Note that this credit will first be applied to any balance you currently owe the university. View your current balance on your Billing Statement in the Financial Services section of your myLSU page.
Any credit remaining after that balance has been paid will be dispersed once you make the request. E-mail the Bursar’s Office to request any remaining balance be dispersed to you. Make sure you are registered for direct deposit and have an accurate mailing address on file in myLSU to receive funds in a timely manner.

This can’t possibly backfire on LSU.

Check the refund on the link, I spoke to the director, he says they believe they are "on solid legal footing".

I don't see any of that in there.
i may not be reading that right.

If you indicated that you intend to stay on campus for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester:
During the course of the semester, you may be asked to relocate from your current space to another on-campus accommodation.
Effective immediately, non-LSU affiliated individuals are not permitted within residence halls. If you are found with guests in your space, you will be asked to move out.
Social gatherings/parties are prohibited at this time; students are encouraged to maintain social distance and minimize interactions with others.
Residential Life and Education staff will continue serving in an on-call capacity. They can be reached at your community front desk or via the on-call cell phone number posted at the desk.
Front Desk hours will be limited, therefore if you need assistance, please engage our on-call system. There may be longer wait times for basic functions, including lockouts.
All events within residential communities are canceled effective immediately.
The Living on Campus Handbook policies and community standards will remain in place. Please keep in mind that quiet hours are from 10 pm – 8 am Sunday-Thursday, and 12 am – 10 am Friday and Saturday.
If you indicated that you intend to leave campus for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester:
You will need to formally check out of your space with a member of the Residential Life and Education staff. You will be expected to return your key and you MUST see a staff member to be checked out prior to departing.
Staff members will be located at the front desk of your community to check out of your space.
Failure to check out properly will result in an improper check out charge and a lock change (where appropriate).
At this time, we are only asking departing students to remove all belongings and trash from their space during their departure.
Please note that if you do not remove all of your trash and items from your room, a $300 item removal charge will apply.
We will not conduct a closing inspection of your space at this time. Staff will inspect your space at another time.
Please limit the amount of individuals you bring to campus to conduct your move-out. Our preference is that you move out of your space without any additional guests when possible to preserve the health of our community.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep our community safe during this time.

Yikes. Some parents about to lawyer up.

That is typical fricking LSU.

$538.00 refund already includes the 75% penalty.

they are now assessing a 75% penalty for breaking the contract.

I am not calling bullshite just yet but I read your link and saw not a single word about a penalty. Much less a 75% penalty. Please quote the section at your link regarding this.

I'd just leave my shite there. Claim I'm not moving out, just don't stay there.

There's no 75% penalty. The $538 refund is for the 25% remaining of the academic calendar from 3/18 onward.

OR its a pro rated amount based on the fact that it is Mid-March and they have been living in the dorms up until now.

Well, it’s the very same greed that caused LSU to put the screws to the student apartment community, not giving two shits what they did to that local market by mandating freshmen live on campus and built new dorms to Make that money

How much does it cost to live on campus for a semester?
The link you posted basically says the amount changes daily as it's based on number of days left in the contract.
I'm guessing you are about halfway through contract. So if there is a 75% penalty, that would mean $538 should be $2,152. So for a whole semester, it would be $4,304. Does it really cost $4,300 per semester for a double occupancy dorm room for one person?

I hope every person that moved out sues them.
Ridiculous.
Ridiculous.

Is it possible that LSU is doing this to students who broke the lease BEFORE the cancellation of classes? And now these students want a full refund since everyone is now encouraged to leave.
