Possibly...he gains on the "doing whatever the frick he wants to do" side of it, but loses on the "having the money to do the shite" side of it.
ETA: And loses on the "old lady ragging on him about not doing shite" part.

If you spend a quarter of your adult life working, seems more like slavery to a lifestyle than enjoying life.
Freedom > tGrind. The ideal has always been to get out ASAP.

Good for you if that’s what you want to do and it’s economically feasible.

Many folks do more with less.
His wife is a nurse and they have real estate money coming in and he's retired from the military.
If you can't live life with such funds it's a you problem.

I am a few weeks away from 45 and I've been looking for a good reason to quit working and they gave it to me. I am retired from the military, my wife is a RN and we have additional passive real estate income of about $75,000 a year.
Live like the lion and let the lioness do the work. You protect the homestead.

I’m glad you are officially on my payroll now

I'd rather continue working at a job I like or can tolerate and retire knowing I'm set as opposed to either skimping in retirement and worst case scenario having to take a job as a Walmart greeter at 73 just to survive.
I have no clue the OPs financial situation, but just saying...that happens to some people.
They're likely in the 22%-24% income tax bracket so that 75k is really 55-58k after federal, and then another 7k comes out for CA state income taxes...48k-51k remaining before any other expenses.
His wife likely makes 57-91k? In some states you could live comfortably but California is a different beast.
40s are prime earning years baw!

Are you bragging to us because you're too ashamed about this brag to your wife?
Posted on 2/27/20 at 4:07 pm to CoachTiger21
Oh for sure. I have been there and would do again if needed, but I have had the luxury recently and I look forward to it. Mentally it does so much more for me.
