It's hilarious to see a generation who shits on the younger "snowflake" generations so much melt over 2 words so badly.

We are talking strictly in an academic sense. No one gives a frick about "Okay boomer" but it is meant as a put-down to Boomers, so you are incorrect.

There are obviously levels to this stuff. Again, we don't know the context of the discussion.

I can make up a word today and start using it to disparage any group of people I choose. No one would care and it would have no power, but it would be a slur.

Eh, anything can really be used as a slur. It's pretty much at the core of the phrase. It's meant to be insulting to a certain age group.

Hell, a few years ago "tranny" wasn't a big deal, but now it's "their version of the n word"

While there are plenty boomer snowflakes out there, using a member of Academia to make broad assumptions on a generation is retarded.

The boomer snowflakes are more the “war on Christmas” or all lives matter types.

Why don't they arrest them if they aren't there on official business?

If the outrage over the phrase was limited to this guy comparing it to the n word, it would be retarded. There are plenty of examples of people calling it ageism, comparing it to the n word, or otherwise providing an upset reaction to it.

Question for all:

Assuming you are the Oklahoma president and want to defuse this situation and keep your job, what would you do to remove the black students from sitting in your office?

I would not forcibly remove them, but I would make it clear that no missed class or test would be excused. I also would not allow anyone that left to re-enter.

Attrition would solve the problem. I would also office elsewhere until they all left to rob them of the power they are getting for supposedly "gridlocking" the president's office.

How is it a bad or illogical take to say I wouldn't compare "okay boomer" to the n word?

They're referring to you saying that it is in no way a slur, which one could easily argue is completely incorrect.

Because it's bad and illogical, for many reasons.

Mainly because you don't know the original context.

Just because the severity or power of the two terms is not equal, does not mean they cannot both be used in a disparaging manner.

It's a sarcastic quip used on the internet in response to someone (likely a boomer) saying something stupid.

I feel like you and I agree in theory here, just differ on what is a slur.

Students said they were in a senior ethics class at the Gaylord School of Journalism when Professor Peter Gade compared calling an older person “Boomer” to calling a black person the n-word. (Gade used the actual racial slur).

I don't know what additional context would make that a good comparison. I mean, I guess he could've been saying something like this:

quote:

Just because the severity or power of the two terms is not equal, does not mean they cannot both be used in a disparaging manner.

But that would be kind of a weird thing to be lecturing about. "They aren't the same level of offensiveness, but they're technically the same thing."
