I absolutely agree on Kevin being an analyst.....hell, I'd like him as a coach, but that's in good order now.

This board is obsessed with getting former players here as coaches without any knowledge of whether or not they're good at their job. If he is, sure I'd love to have him here, but just bc he is a former player doesn't mean he'll be a good coach.

1.) He loves LSU
2.) He isn't just a former player, he is an NFL Hall of Famer
3.) He was also head of the NFLPA, so he has experience dealing with people and organizations in sports
4.) Yes, we have not seen how effective he can be as a coach (yet). He is working on that now and, considering the fact that he has excelled at every single other thing that he has done in his career, odds are pretty good that he will be successful at this as well.

All of that said, I am not proposing that we replace Coach Cregg. He has done an incredible job and I'm glad that he is here. But if an opportunity were to open up at LSU, even an analyst position, would love to see Kevin here.

Kevin Mawae is as good of a representative as a coach, recruiter, or analisis for LSU that we could possibly hire. His LSU line coach was my next door neighbor during his LSU career, his wife is an LSU grad. They both bleed purple and gold. Money is no issue due to his NFL career. Hope Kevin is at LSU in the near future. We need people with the class, integrity, football knowledge, and love for LSU that Kevin Mawae has.

Re: Todd

Todd is a coach to his sons, he’s a son of a coach, and his father is a son of a coach. He was known for being the quarterback of the o-line in Atlanta. Hell, he helped Matt Ryan by calling blitz pickups and checks during Matt’s rookie season. He helped train x- LSU players for the draft. I think he can coach. I’m sure he would reach out if he was interested.

Typical ignorant response from you, I expected nothing less. My reply about Kevin's current and future coaching situation were directly from his mouth when I last spoke with him about LSU. Have you ever listened to his testimony ? Losing his brother John (best man in Kevin's wedding) in a tragic car accident saved his life and brought him closer to the Lord. John was 26 yrs old when the vehicles driver fell asleep at the wheel on I-10 near the Gonzales exit.

Instead of laughing and ridiculing people, you might want do some research and learn about the facts. Here, I'll go ahead and help you as you should know more about Kevin Mawae And another of Kevin's testimonies. If you would have watched Kevin's HOF speech, you would have already known how strong his FAITH is and how much John meant to him.

.... "I learned that God had a plan for everybody, and I began to believe that,".. Mawae said. "And I was still trying to figure out what his plan for my brother was. Why did he do this to my brother?"

In the aftermath of tragedy, Mawae has transformed his life of misplaced priorities and made himself perhaps the best center in the NFL. Mawae still has that spiral notebook, filled with questions about life and death. He has a Bible verse written on the tips of each shoe he wears when he plays. He carries a composition notebook everywhere, filled with everything he prays for - "my family, my children, my health, friends of mine that are hurt," Mawae said. "Things that people need. Things that I struggle with."

Kevin Mawae is a Hall of Famer. However he has never worked as a coach at the college or NFL level. Just because someone makes an outstanding player, doesn't mean they will make a great coach. Coaches have to be mentors, babysitters, father figures, and be able to teach their craft in a way that those players can relate to. Kevin Mawae wanted to join Les Mile's staff as an OL coach, but lacked the experience other than being a former player. It seems his former coach Herman Edwards brought him on staff as an analyst to learn more about the coaching profession, as with most analysts this gives them an opportunity to move up into a position coach role. Mawae is heading in the right direction to becoming a future OL coach at the collegiate or NFL level. He just has to pay his dues and work his way up the coaching tier.

If I’m a retired HOF player who’s now a coach, I’m choosing Tempe over my alma mater.

Les didn't hire him when he had an opening. He hired Jeff Grimes. Back then LSU didn't hire analysts as a starting point. That's happened since Coach O took over, after someone(rumor wasLane Kiffin) sent Coach O a binder of how Bama had analysts preparing a gameplan against LSU a year in advance. That's when O went to Alleva for power to begin hiring analysts at LSU.

Here's the skinny ... family, timing and everything happens for a reason. Kevin's daughter was one of the best HS swimmers in LA from 2014-16. Because the level of competition in LA is "average", Kevin moved his family to Tempe during Abigail's Sr. year so she could get better coaching and face better competition. Arguably the best swim coach in the country, Bob Bowman saw her talent and she signed with ASU in 2017. During Abigail's FR year (2018), Herm hired Kevin to his staff as an Offensive analyst. Kevin is happy coaching with Herm and he and his wife love the Tempe area. Since Abigail left ASU and now swims for Hawaii, it will be interesting to see how his coaching future plays out. If he and his wife are 100% happy, it's gonna be difficult for them to come home. Factors such as CFB coaching changes at ASU or elderly parents / in-laws needing care could possibly influence his decision (I would not wish the latter on my worst enemy as both my in-laws are in assisted living centers and it sucks)

Just because he loves LSU and was a great player doesn’t equate to great coach

So a guy that caught 3 passes in his entire career at William & Mary whose only experience as a position coach is 3 years coaching LB's at W&M and 1 year coaching WR's at LSU can land a job as an NFL offensive coordinator but a 16-year NFL veteran, 8-time Pro Bowl, HOF center isn't qualified in your eyes to recruit and coach offensive lineman at his alma mater? You're a special kind of stupid.

Yes YOU are. I notice you didn't mention that young man worked as an offensive assistant for 2 YEARS under the tutelage of Sean Payton.

quote:

Brady spent much of his time with the Saints in the quarterbacks meetings as well as the offensive coaching staff meetings. “He was very studious,” Carmichael said of Brady. “He paid attention. He was very detailed. He took notes. When he was in meetings he hung on to every word that he heard Sean Payton say and he was writing those down. He was paying attention to what Drew Brees might have to say. “He’s very detailed, he’s very smart and he has a vision and he understands the concepts and why. He was an unbelievable note taker and had every detail down.” One of Brady’s responsibilities was to break down film of the upcoming opponent and brief the offensive staff.

After Mawae spends two years under Sean Payton, instead of a Herman Edwards, tell him to give Coach O and Woodward a call.

Kevin did help out during Miles tenure. He broke down opposing teams oline tendencies for the defensive lineman. Interviewed for OL job and didn’t get it. Was offered analyst position under O but turned it down to work with Herm. He is the Oline coach now and is on the road recruiting.

He tried hard to get Les Miles to hire him 3/4 years ago and Les Miles wouldn’t hire him. Could be a great addition to LSU.

You do realize that people here are advocating for Kevin Mawae to train and develop offensive lineman on technique and not to be LSU's passing game coordinator, don't you?
