My wife and I told our kids from the start that St. Nicholas was a real person but that Santa Claus is a symbol of the holiday. We’ve asked that they respect the other kids though.

I don’t believe in lying to my kids even for something as benign as Santa

I did this because I had a horrible childhood and when I was a young parent other young parents at the church we went to who had great parents told me how devastated they were to find out their parents lied to them. Mine were so awful that the fact that they lied about Santa never even was a thought in my mind.

They’re your kids, but damn, seems like you’re trying to force young children to think like adults.

Hey daddy, what is this rubber, lumpy, pink tube thing I found in mom's bedside table?
