What are you talking about? There was only one true National Champ and that was and still is LSU.
I get it and you can say it all you want but the AP National Champion was USC and the championship is record official by the NCAA / CFB.
For all the bitching LSU fans do about this the reality is if the later BCS formula that was 2/3 polls was on place in 2003, the matchup would have been LSU vs USC and there would have been zero controversy

We literally only have two extra games.
Posted on 9/29/19 at 3:32 pm to LouisianaLonghorn
It’s an extra game for 2 schools compared to the current system. Start bowl season a week earlier and that fixes that. This is assuming that it doesn’t mess with finals. I don’t know if it would or wouldn’t.

BCS was much better. The committee has no credibility to me.

No one has dethroned Bama/Clemson... why would we expand if two teams are winning every year lol.
LSU wins out & there’s a good chance Bama gets locked out of the playoff this year. With an 8-team playoff this year, either of those teams win the rest of their games they are guaranteed to play each other twice win or lose Nov 6.
Not a fan of that.
Nor am I a fan of only two teams getting a shot as it looks like plenty could go undefeated this year (see Bama getting locked out)

sounds like you’re promoting an expanded playoff, but you’re saying otherwise. 16 team playoff would be really fun

Make the AAC a P6 conference.
The G4 conferences pair off and have play-in games.
8 team playoff. Conference champs only. Notre Dame can join a conference or shut up
That gives teams in a terrible conference the upper hand. You can lose two games in the Pac 12, still win the conference, and get in over a 1 loss #2 team in the SEC. You can't just give spots to conference champions. A conference champion has to earn the spot. All conferences aren't created equal, so giving them equal treatment is bullshite.

12 is the magic number, and EVERY playoff game is played at the higher seed's homefield to help reduce fan travel fatigue, and to REWARD earning a higher seed. Also, teams would still strive for 1 and 2 to earn a valuable bye week. 12 teams allows a healthy number in, but still retains very important incentives to improve your seed, which keeps the regular season important. I would say the power 5 champs go, and then you would have 7 at large bids, just like hoops has them. The championship game would be a collegiate super bowl played at sites awarded through a bidding process, just like now.

By laughing I take it you don’t, so let me inform you that the playoff are picked by a committee that meets every week some time around mid season, they don’t use the existing polls and often differ from the polls in the initial rankings the committee also moves teams up and down liberally and won’t just keep a team at #2 because they’ve been there all season

could we shorten the season 2 games and then have the winners of each conference be in a playoff system and use the current bowls as playoff games?

My biggest complaint with the playoff system is that there are really no rules or guidelines on how the committee selects the 4 teams.
This is, of course, by design. That way they can get the 4 teams which optimize viewership. ND had no place in the playoff last year.
Posted on 9/29/19 at 4:21 pm to H-Town Tiger
See how close the polls are to what the committee decides. OK?
Posted on 9/29/19 at 4:24 pm to LSUStar
LSU fans are soooooo sensitive and insecure... just win....
BTW my final four right now are
Ohio st.
Bama
Oklahoma
LSU.

Just copy the FCS model...

quote:when the playoff goes to 8 teams, that will happen - the 5 P5 conference winners get auto bids and then 3 at-large. It only extends the playoffs by one week, and the bowls will be used for the quarterfinals, as they are now for the semifinals. Easy.

The length of the regular season isn't a problem. The playoffs only affect a small number of teams.

Not reading OP.
Use BCS formula to determine who goes to playoff. Don’t care 4/8.

5 P5 champs 3 at large one being the highest ranked non P5. Would be annually a fight for one spot by teams like Boise UCF Memphis San Diego st etc. Reward the higher ranked teams with the home field. Or closer neutral site game if applicable So if there’s a 11-1 team that finishes 2nd n sec west for ex. And a conf champ with 3 losses the 11-1 team trumps them for more favorable site
