Make it 16 like all other divisions and I'll be happy.

The only thing about conference champs only is putting in the best teams.
well "best" teams is 100% subjective, conference champs is clear and objective. The other grossly overlooked thing about "best" teams is conference championship games are held against teams that lose it while others benefit from not playing in it.

ake the majority of the human element out of the process and use the BCS system to set the top 8
The BCS was 2/3 human polls, which BTW are grossly inferior to the committee th other 1/3 is computer formulas, which are created by humans. Determining the best teams is not a science, it's not a provable fact (if it was, then why waste time even playing the games). I don't like 8, i think 4 is fine but if you got to 8, ditch the CCG and take the 5 conference champs and 3 at large or perhaps 1 spot for a Grp of 5 team if they meet certain criteria and 2 at large.

Expand it to six teams. Top 6 conference champs selected by a computer system are seeded. The top 2 get a bye and a second round home game. The 3/4 get a first round home game.
Get rid of second chances/wild cards and your SOS makes your playoff route much different.
You are mainly rewarding the media darlings with the wildcards anyways.
Also in the game of football with limited games compared to number of teams, we just respect the full season conference tournaments to pare down the field.

My biggest complaint with the playoff system is that there are really no rules or guidelines on how the committee selects the 4 teams.
Conference championships are critical, unless they want a team that didn’t win their conference.
SOS is critical until they want to leave out a team with strong SOS for someone else.
The regular season doesn’t matter, the committee will pick who they want regardless of what happens on the field

We went to the computer rankings to remove human bias.
i love this like the people programing the formulas can't have a bias
quote:
The computers got it right because they weighed strength of schedule heavier than “eye test “
did they? was 2003 OU really the "best" team? The computers had them #1
quote:
But then the people in charge didn’t like being worthless so started tweaking it to make the voting polls worth more .
spare the tin foil hat crap. The biggest BCS controversy by was 2003 OU over USC. LSU was #2 in everything so we are in regardless of the system. IT wasn't just the powers that be that had an issue with it. If LSU and USC play there would have been no controversy.

until we’re now back where we started with biased people picking the champions
How are biased people picking the champion when the champion is named after winning 2 games against top 4 teams. Are you suggesting Clemson was unworthy last year? Bama the year before when they didn't even win their division? At best you could maybe quibble with a couple of teams that got in, say maybe the formula picks UGA over OU but other than than that the 4 teams the committee has picked would be the same four from the "unbiased" computers

8 team playoff, 9 game conference schedule, ban div 1-2 from playing each other
college football = fixed

JFC... some of you guys constantly want the goal post moved so that LSU has a chance to finally make the playoffs.
Posted on 9/29/19 at 2:09 pm to TigerFan244
Agreed but for different reasons.
BCS is better. No playoff. Kids are playing way too long with a big paycheck.
That is what college football is about now. Money. Rankings, recruiting, and if you are a deep stater, officiating and such.
Just call it like it is. BCS did it’s job and preserved the bowl system.

There’s such a demand to be “perfect” that it’s basically rendering all the other bowl games meaningless.
They were meaningless in the BCS era. The BCS and College Football playoff made/make the matchups to determine the National Champion. If you aren't in those games, you are just playing for pride and a trophy.
If you want other bowl games to mean something, you'd gave to go back to the pre-BCS era where everyone plays in Bowl games based on where they finish in their conference. SEC/Big 12 Champs to the Sugar; Big 10/Pac 12 Champs to the Rose; and the ACC Champ to the Orange. Then, let things fall as they will. The #1 and #2 teams may not play in a bowl game, and you could have 3 undefeated teams making a claim as National Champ at season's end.

I liked the BCS. It was more exciting and the bowl games meant something

But no one who remembers the BCS clearly would want the shite show that gave us LSU/USC "co-national champions" back.
What are you talking about? There was only one true National Champ and that was and still is LSU.

I completely disagree. When do you think Bama or Clemson will ever finish out of the top eight? Eight teams would almost guarantee them a playoff spot every year. And even less incentive to schedule competitive non-conference games.
Posted on 9/29/19 at 2:50 pm to Bestbank Tiger
Their top teams can compete with the bottom of the current power 5 though which is the point I was trying to make.
Posted on 9/29/19 at 2:58 pm to TigerFan244
I agree.
BCS selects 4 playoff teams instead of stupid committee. Much better system.

What about conferences that have championship games? Those teams would have to play an extra game. Plus, wouldn’t adding more games make it more difficult for fans? Not everyone is like the Bama fan who would mortgage his double wide just to be able to attend the SEC championship game, plus three playoff games.

quote:uh, the polls have ZERO to do with who makes the playoffs.
No excuse for Texas to drop 2 spots but for Clemson to remain #2, absolute joke of a system.
Do you even understand college football?

i’m shocked that some people bitch about the current system, which is far superior to the prior 2 team BCS championship game.
It’s funny that the March Madness selection committee is universally respected, but the Football Selection Committee gets grief, even though it’s very similar.
