Yelling and abusive workouts. They were full pads on Thursdays.....and 14-110yd sprints on Sundays after games to boot.

Those were rough years. I never witnessed a winning season as an LSU student. I remember taking an absolute pounding by UF in a torrential downpour. As bad as LSU was, we never left a game early. And LSU was really, really bad.

Same here, and i’m still bitter.
And i also remember watching LSU lose in a downpour, but against FSU in ‘91, when they were #1 in the country.. still cant get that annoying ‘OH, oh ooohh’ chant out of my head.. But running back to Power Hall from Tiger Stadium with my friends in the rain after the blowout loss and and the party that ensued is still a great memory in my mind.. would be even better if we’d won, or even been competitive.

We were competitive. We were up 13-0 in the first half but they turned it on in the 2nd. 27-16 final score.
I tumbled down the bleachers of the half-empty student section when we scored on that long Todd Kinchen catch on the first series.
Daylight savings was that night and Murphy's was open until 3am with Better than Ezra. Win or lose, I agree that it was a great night.

That’s because LSU coaches weren’t paid shite back then. Got into a heated argument (alcohol involved,) with probably the only Hallman supporter ever sighted at TS. He threw the old “think you could do any better?” at me. Responded by saying I sure as hell couldn’t do any worse but I’m not going to take a 60% pay cut to find out. Which was true at the time, assistant coaches pay was dismal back then too. Miles was a big champion of improving their pay. It’s probably been a bit overdone, imo.

Yeah he was absolutely devastated when we lost that game. Last game of his career with bowl game on the line, a chance to snap the streak of futility. He left it all out on the field and was in tears on the field when it was over.
Was his senior year with Kevin as well (they are still best friends)

Jamie wasnt the LSU QB who set the completion record against Arky when fighting for a bowl game....
Chad went 28/43 for 339 yards that game and threw 14 straight completions at one point
That game was the first time I cried over a sport as a kid

True Story: My friends and I were in student section for LSU game in '93 or '94. It was raining and we were losing bad going into halftime. My good friend had enough of it and when Hallman went running into locker room, my boy took his shoe off and threw it right over his head. The Marshall came up to us and said sit down. I won't throw you out because if I could, I would have done the same. frick Hallman.

Correct.
I recently saw an article about Hallman from 1994; it stated that he made $90k a year which, while it would have been a great salary in Baton Rouge for most professions back then, would equate to only $350k in today’s dollars... Compare that with the (i think) $3.5 million Ed O pulled in last year, and Hallman’s salary was literally a fraction (1/10) of what the LSU HC makes today, even adjusted for inflation.

Daigle(running backs)before and during Kevin Mawae's years.
They were both great coaches, and I am proud to call both, our friends today.
Coach Ferro played Kevin Mawae as a 240 pound freshman left tackle in the Vanderbilt game because of injuries. Kevin Mawae has applied twice for offensive line positions at L.S.U., and was not hired. Kevin and his wife are both great L.S.U. representatives and I hope the family is officialy involved with our tigers one day. "GEAUX TIGERS"

I literally never get tired of Charles telling stories about the Curly years of misrule.
I think it is pretty clear the esteem in which Mawae holds Curly, but he's also far too classy to openly call him out in his HOF speech. That would be beneath him. I'm still shocked Mawae returned for his senior year, and he switched positions to boot.
I'll always remember Mawae at midfield after the Arkansas game. We were so excited by the chance to go to the damn Carquest Bowl. That game hurt.

The ONLY reason I place Hallman above Archer is he recruited better and left the program in better shape talent wise for the next coach.
He was a worse coach than Archer but better recruiter.
Dinardo was insecure. He got to where he wouldnt hire coaches who would eventually move on to better jobs or who were too good. He also started recruiting too many thugs and had a horrible attrition rate. Then there is Tepper.

I’ll never forget him chasing the Arky guy on the pick 6 at the end. He had zero chance of catching him yet he never quit on the play. Lump in the throat.
