This is a loaded question.

Les Miles, who averaged over ten wins a season in his entire LSU stint, sealed his own fate by refusing to change an outdated offense that was no longer effective. But he also lost the confidence of the fan base and the administration because of Alabama and the downward spiral proceding the "incident" in January of 2012.

This will all come down to Alabama. If Orgeron wins ten games and shits the bed against the Tide again, he may be on the hot seat. If Orgeron only wins nine games and beats Alabama or puts LSU in a position to beat Alabama, he isn't on the hotseat.

I think this whole issue revolves around getting over that hump whether its fair or people want to admit it or not.

But I don't think ten wins should put anyone on the hot seat.

And that’s not what put Les on the hot seat as much as the posters in this thread scream it from the top of their lungs.

Les was never on the hot seat for his 10-2 seasons. He was on the hot seat for his 9-3 and 8-4 seasons that became the norm during the end of his tenure.

There’s no way 10-2 puts Orgeron on the hot seat either. However, it will feel like 10-2 is his ceiling if that’s his record this year, and therefore will feel disappointing.

It wasn't at all. It was more so the 14-10 SEC record his last 3 years, along with an offense (aside from 2013) that couldn't do anything for close to 8 years.

But don't tell anyone that.

No, but I think a couple more seasons of getting railed by Alabama will.

Clemson and Bama are so far ahead of everyone else, it’s not even close.

Just losing to Bama won’t do shite. We could be the 3rd best team in the country and still lose to Bama every year

I don't think Woodward will sit on his hands if he thinks he can get LSU on that level.

Only Bama and UGA had better conference record over this period of time.

Our national championship season had 2 losses. Les only had less than 2 losses 1 time in his career, and that was with one of the best college defenses of all time.

Losing.

In the modern CFP, 1 RSL descent chance you get in, 2 YOU MAKE IT REAL HARD ON YOURSELF.

Back to my point which no one has attacked. NO one should ever be happy about a loss.

Wasn’t O hired to do what Les couldn’t? And why do you hate O so much that you have no confidence in him winning a championship?

Depends on who you are and what you want LSU to be. 10-2 is very good and would be better than any season Orgerons ever had so if you’re an Ed Orgeron fan no way you’d want him on the hot seat for it. If you’re a fan who wants LSU to reclaim its status from the Saban and Miles eras 10-2 would be coming up short once again and it’ll frustrate you. If you’re the new AD who’s said he wants to win championships 10-2 this particular season might raise red flags and signal the ceiling for Orgeron so you might be considering a change in the near future. It all depends, for example I don’t believe he can do it, I think 9-3 is where we’ll end up this season but since I’m a fan and have no say so on coaching decisions 10-2 is great with Ed Orgeron as head coach. However with this roster if we had someone better running the show like Saban or Miles 10-2 would be a disappointment.

Well said.

Orgeron has no benefit of the doubt to make you feel that 10-2 is just a bounce of the ball away from 11-1 or 12-0.

If O were to go 10-2 this year and win a bowl game to get to 11-2 you’d probably get the feeling that this season was...fine...and that O has maxed out his potential.

Think of it like when the warriors fired Marc Jackson or when Toronto fires their coach last year and wins a title this year.

No one is saying O is a bad coach for going 10-2, but that he’s not the guy that will get LSU back to the top of the mountain.

It was the same SEC record as that of 2008, 2009, 2010. He gave himself life in 2011 with a winning team and then Mett bought him a few more years. It was clear as day that he wasn't doing that again after the 3 year spiral that was 2013, 2014, 2015. They gave him a second chance in 2016 and look what happened.

I loved Les Miles as the HC here. It was his time to go. His completely stubbornness on offense was a cancer. His DEPLETION of the trenches when it came to recruiting, his squandering of QBs, his inability to manage the clock, all of these things are what drove Les Miles out.

Now that would be a laugh firing a coach for going 10-2 and good luck finding a top-tier coach to replace him.

Now we're worried about landing a top tier coach?

Slightly off topic, I remember advocating for Lincoln Riley back in 2016, and got yelled down. People told me LSU was above making an OC a HC. Then we go and make a position coach HC.

What exactly about 2013 was a spiral??

You literally just said Mett bought him a few extra years.

You sure it wasn’t those 2 national title appearances and 3 conference title appearances that bought him a few years?

Or maybe bringing in top 5 talent in 2014? I know a lot of fans who felt like Miles deserved a chance to try to win with Fournette.

Disappointing yes. This season is an opportunity to reach the playoffs with a shot at a Natty because we have a seasoned team not a young team. Even with a Bama loss. We really need the bounces to bounce our way in the other games.

But hot seat? Nah. O is responsible 100% for leading our team to be in this position to have this opportunity. He has done more than most expected or hoped.
