Search the travel board, this has been discussed many times with fantastic answers, and quite a few photographs of things to do and see

Every county in the MSP metro area is at least 70% white.

Immigrants make up 6.8% of the MSP metro area. Only 20% of that 6.8% is African.

Like if you seriously live in a reality where you think MSP is infected with crime, you probably shouldn't even be allowed to talk about the crime in New Orleans.

HURR MSP IS UNIQUE CAUSE ALL THE SOMALIANS THAT COME HERE END UP THERE.

Funny how no one derogatorily equates Saint Louis with Bosnia.

I'm sure Bosnia sucks.

But the Bosnians in St. Louis aren't actively looking to join ISIS where you hear stories of Somalis in MSP doing it every month.

If you want to be more cynical though:

Bosnians = white
Somalis = black

That plays some part into it but I don't think it's the main reason.

I’ll reiterate what others have pointed out: several Fortune 500 companies, great schools, plenty of outdoor activities around the state, high taxes, brutal winters, temperatures reach triple digits in the summer, “Minnesota Nice” is a myth, and poor road quality resulting in constant construction.

Also, if you are a college football/basketball/baseball fan, this is a bit of a wasteland. Things tend to revolve around the Vikings and hockey.

I've been once, and have a friend who lives there. She's from Lafayette and thoroughly enjoys living in Minneapolis, she did marry someone from there, though. Anyway, it was beautiful, tons of lakes and the weather was fantastic when I was there. The COL is high from what I've seen, but the Uptown area around the Lakes is awesome.

Oddly enough, my wife is sitting in an airport en route to Minneapolis today.

If you don't at least like winter it'll eat you alive.

Otherwise embrace the outdoor winter life: ice fishing, snowmobliling, sno skiing, ice skating. The key is dressing for it. Parka and insulated rubber boots when spending significant time outdoors.

For your vehicles... Invest in a tank heater and snow tires and you'll be fine.

The Twin Cities are a great if you're an urbanite. sports, music, theater.

Hope it works out well for you.

I live in the northern burbs in Minneapolis. Cost of living is higher than LA but not crazy. This should be more along the lines of, do you want to freeze your balls off 2 months out of the year while potentially having snow on the ground for 6 months. I don’t know anyone that lives south of Minneapolis so don’t know any of those areas.

Why anyone would choose to live in a place they hate (the way you describe msp) is beyond my comprehension.

Why do you hate America? If you want to support terrorists move to Europe or the ME.

I make a 3000 mile trip yearly. The drive through MSP is, by far, the worst. I try to hit it around 3am to somewhat mitigate the pain. It is still usually bad enough that I just eat an extra 2 hours and go through Kansas City instead on the return drive home.

Live there? Shoot me now.
