Money well spent? You have several players making the league minimum of $550k who are ahead of him in WAR right now. And the Phillies are in 3rd place.

He's historically had one half of the season bad and the other half dominant.

Update this thread on the back-end of the season and we'll see how well this thread ages.

I'm legit having trouble trying to think of anything as useless as MLB standings in mid-April.

Small sample size.

I do agree that he is by far the most overrated player in the MLB but he sells seats and merchandise so he is in a different category as far as worth is concerned. Player = 100% overrated.

I went on record in the offseason of saying he is not anywhere near a top 10 player, and a lot of people had a problem with it.

He has months where he is the best player in the game, but never does it for a full season

WAR, lol

We all knew his deal would be asinine, as well as the padre ss, but at that age, you get his prime years, it was going to be done.

He'll do fine in that ball park, it's a band box. He should average over 35hr a season in Philly.

He's ranked 37th and 35th in Runs Created on B-R and Fangraphs. But the two sites differ on his defensive ability, or lack thereof. Especially last year, when Fangraphs credited him with twice the WAR B-R did (3.5 to 1.3).

He is not that good. His numbers with the Nationals in his last couple of years were nothing special at all

He has a .968 OPS. Philly would gladly take that for a decade.

I don't trust the defensive metrics bringing down his WAR so much.
