Is our D-line recruiting struggles because of Aranda?

Yall think that the DL recruiting problems are because of Aranda's system. He says that the NT and DE are there to absorb the blockers so that the linebackers can roam free to make plays. Do you think we are pitching this to these high schoolers while other schools are telling them that they could be stars and make plays themselves? I could see the logic as to why these top DL would decommit or commit to other schools over the past few years. I mean I love aranda's system but we might be missing on these elite big men because of that. But maybe its just Orgeron not getting lucky or delivering.

Definitely is, 3-4 is a defense linebackers supposed excel in

Yes Aranda is hurting us.

Aranda's D is challenging for all involved, you have to know your role and except it to work.

Most 3-4 defenses work this way, including Bama’s. Most 3-4 DL know what the deal is.

We run the same 3-4 scheme that Bama does for the most part. Their DL make more plays because they’re more talented across the board and win the individual battles. If anything, Aranda’s version of the 3-4 is more aggressive for the DL when compared to Bama’s scheme.

I'm certain our down linemen are still trying to shed blocks and make plays. Them absorbing blocks may be the effect of the scheme, but it is not end goal.

I thought with the coach we have now running the program we'd be overflowing with DL talent. Not so much.

I think LSU's biggest problem is the level of DL talent on the starting line, along with quality of depth. We simply don't have enough talented, nasty DL to compete with Alabama and we don't have enough depth behind the starters to provide a consistent high level of play all game long!

Think part of it is his simulated pressure system but most of it is the horses we have aren't great pass rushers.

If someone doesn't get geeked up at the fact he's p lb. Saying for aranda and an elite defense they're other players we should be looking at. Being the "playmaker" sometimes means consistantly holding your responsibility on the D-line. Doesn't always show up on the stat sheet but I promise opposing coaches and NFL scouts pay attention.

I think the problem starts with an O.

There is no system where they teach the d line to not beat blocks and get to the QB. Our guys were just not athletic if enough to do it on a consistent basis. If you look at the tape, it wasn’t for lack of effort. Not everyone can rush from DE at 310+ pounds. Needed to get a little lighter and quicker at those spots to make an impact. Bama runs 3-4 and there DEs are taller than ours and played at 285-290. Ours played 317 and 295-300. There NT played at 295. Our NT played 30-40 pounds heavier.

I’ve been thinking this was the case since year 2. Name a Wisconsin or LSU stud all world lineman under his tutelage. Compare that to CB, S, LB... it’s obvious that DL is not what shines in the Defense.

No I don't know what our DL coach and Ed have been doing, but it's downright ridiculous that we don't have an abundance of high ranking DL talent that can get in the backfield. That has been a crutch of the LSU defense since 2013.

The problem is LSU hasn’t had a defensive linemen drafted in the first round since 2013, and he played linebacker in the NFL. LSU hasn’t had a defensive linemen drafted in the second round since 2014.
LSU is signing good, but not great defensive linemen. That was the case at the end of Miles’ tenure and it’s still the case now.
