And here the Blazers are likely to be heading back to the playoff meanwhile the Pels main guy from the post CP3 era wants out.

What’s the difference in these two teams? The Pels were the hot new team on the block after playing a competitive G Sweep to the GOAT. Dame “survived” the Laker rumors early in the year, refusing to say much of anything that could get twisted in the media. AD went another route and let his agent do all the talking instead of himself.

The NBA crazy.

NOLA should trash basketball and get a hockey team. Frick it.

This current Portland team is a lot different than last year's. Portland finally has a healthy Harkless (which wasn't the case in the playoff series), a deeper bench, a better coach and better front office than the Pels. They are just a better organization and with that has come stability. And for most of this season, their main contributors have all remained healthy, which hasn't been the case with the Pels.

Not a difference maker this year. Likely losing his minutes and spot to some combination of the newly acquired Hood and blossoming Layman.

Have the Pelicans ever cleaned house with their trainers and doctors? They seem incompetent after guys like EG and Ryno leave to immediately have healthy seasons while the Pelicans can never keep their top three intact for most of the season

To the OP this Portland team on paper is better than last year. Time will tell if that's actually the case for real though. Also Dame did more than just navigate through Laker rumors. The dude constantly says he wants to be the best blazers player ever, win a title there, and retire in Portland. He has an attitude of I will play the games while management does roster management.

when the building is full for every game, it's almost like players notice and appreciate that

Unlike a usually half full SKC

Dame is one of the best leaders in the game. He isn’t a better player than Davis on the court, but when you look at the whole package including the intangibles give me dame.

I agree Dame is the type of player that the others guy want to play harder for. He has an it factor about him that Davis does not have.

The Pels had a great mactchup vs the Blazers since Jrue could shut down dame by himself, leaving CJ to try and take over, but Rondo did a great job on him too

This year we were riddled with injuries and with absolutely no depth, it was tough to string together some Ws

Yup. Pels lost a lot of close games this year (2-16 in games within 5 pts with 3 minutes to go last time I checked). Last year was different. Davis has the toughness of a wet paper towel.

I was wrong about him.

I agree 100%. I mean, without Dame going God Mode in the last few minutes of multiple down to the wire games last year (Suns and Nuggets in the last ten games pop out to me) we don’t make the playoffs, period. There was no outside shooting outside of Dame and CJ (and technically Aminu but the defense leaves him open). This year’s team, with the emergence of Layman, signing of Curry, acquisition of Hood, we have legit outside threats outside. Insert Kanter and we have another post threat for the 20 minutes Nurkic is off the floor.

Also when asked on Twitter if he’d be happy if LA traded for him, he said he’s “typically a happy camper”. Dame did also say all the other stuff you mentioned, but if you remember the summer before Aldridge left, he said he wanted to be the best Blazer etc etc. Now Dame has always expressed how much he loves Portland unlike Aldridge who always felt like he wanted to head back to Texas.

All about perspective. By May last year, Pels talk was sucking off Demps and Gentry. You guys had fleeced Chicago for Mirotic and brought in Cousins the year before for Hield because Vlade thought Hield was “the next Steph Curry”. Then after that sweep of Portland, Gentry was suddenly in good graces with y’all.

Meanwhile, Portland fans (not me) wanted Stotts and Olshey gone. I will say, we have some dumb af fans though. I’d give Stotts a lifetime contract imo.

I think that part of it is the lasers for the most part have returned the same team over the past three seasons. Dame, CJ, and Nurkic have been able to grow for three years, with Mo Harkless and Aminu playing the three of 4 and sometimes swapping with Evan Turner. Their starting 5 has a ton of chemistry from playing together, and it seems that the pelicans are constantly swapping players on 1 year deals, which I am sure can't help.
