Boy starts the second half of U13 travel soccer this week and we were all emailed the schedule. It’s crazy to look at something like this and feel anything but smothered, but it’s bittersweet...pretty sure this is his last season. Once he starts school sports I assume this is all over. He’ll go to an all boys school from 7th thru 12th grade, and they offer all sorts of athletic opportunities...and a new ‘team’.

Oh well, cheers to all the travel families out there, here’s to one more. Only positive encouragement from the sidelines...team practice 2-3 times a week and...

Nothing like giving your kid an inflated sense of self worth IN YOUR life. Screw that.

Unless my kid was very, very good with a small chance of going pro and an excellent chance of getting a scholarship then I'd say a big nope. It's not about money, it's about time. My daughter played travel softball and overall I regret it. So much of the family's time was devoted to one family member's pursuit.

I mean no disrespect, but why would we care what your son's sports schedule is?

Why would this be his last season?

You do realize the good high school soccer players still play club soccer right? If they are good enough they play with some of the most elite players in clubs.

High school sports is a joke

InB4 OP says it’s better than the kid running the streets and ending up with the bad crowd.

I love this excuse from travel ball families. It’s like the only two options for a kid are to train like an elite, professional athlete or OD on drugs.

Frick That - I'll travel for baseball within 1-2 hours and maybe a couple tournaments a year further.

We usually play close enough to drive home and sleep at the house.

So if one kid does travel ball, the entire family is basically held captive?

Kid must be a decent athlete. Only a select few make the ODP cut.

At least the soccer will prepare him properly for an all boys school.
