Missing 13-year-old Jayme Closs, who was kidnapped after her parents were found murdered in their Wisconsin home, has been found alive, police say.

Jayme was located in Douglas County, Wisconsin, officials said.

quote:

A suspect has been taken into custody, the Barron County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. Police did not release any other details about the arrest or how Jayme was located.

Authorities have scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. on Friday to discuss the case.

quote:

Investigators believe Jayme was abducted Oct. 15 before dawn after her parents, James and Denise Closs, aged 56 and 46, were gunned down in their home in Barron.

Police responded to the house after a strange 911 call just before 1 a.m. local time when someone called 911 from Denise Closs' cellphone, and the 911 dispatcher heard "a lot of yelling,"

Good to hear she's alive, especially after so long.

obviously wasn't one of those evil white men the news media and Hollywood keeps warning us about. otherwise they would be jumping for joy and high-fiving one another in the newsroom eager to report a real description instead of such a basic one.

Holy shite, I bet that poor girl has been going through hell this whole time. I can't even imagine the emotions her family are feeling right now.

Unbelievable. Great to hear. Going to be very tough, but hopefully she can find peace one day. I’m guessing she’s gonna be getting close to $1m in GFM money. She had everyone but 1 person in America rooting for her

Sounds very strange. Those people at the 911 Center are to be commended for getting police out to where the offender and child were located. Will be interesting to see how all this went down.

She may need some counseling from Elizabeth Smart.

This has “Lifetime Movie” written all over it. The script writers are just waiting for the details to emerge.

I can't imagine going through something like that and ever getting a restful night's sleep again. At 13 asleep in the safety of your own home and then someone kicks in the door, shoots your parents, kidnaps you, and holds you hostage for several months? Damn, just damn.

Not that it's very relevant but the guy is very premature bald for a 21 yr old. He has the hairline of a 35 yr old.

I assume she somehow managed to make the phone call to 911?

I can't imagine what it does to a 13 year old mind to sit there and watch some masked man literally blow your mom's head off right beside you. Seems like the mind would just permanently break

Here is the latest story. Excellent opening paragraph (lead).

quote:

BARRON, Wis. — He shaved his head and his face, wiping down his father’s shotgun and six 12-gauge shells to avoid leaving a physical trace. He replaced his car’s license plates with a set he had stolen, removing a glow-in-the-dark cord from the trunk that allowed people to open it from inside.

quote:

And he showed up at a home in rural Wisconsin in a black coat and a balaclava with one purpose: to kidnap a 13-year-old girl whose name he didn’t even know. Prosecutors laid out in detail these steps they say Jake Patterson took as he planned the kidnapping of Jayme Closs last year — an act planned after Patterson saw the girl at a bus stop
