I don't think anyone is disputing that Simmons is a phenomenal player.

I certainly am not.

Is he one of the best basketball players to ever suit up for LSU? Absolutely.

Is he one of the "Greatest Tigers Ever?" frick. No.

It was apparent that he didn't care for LSU by watching his play on the court. That feeling was slammed home by the Showtime special. What a count he is.

If I were picking all-time Tiger Basketball teams, I wouldn't put Ben Simmons in the Top 50. I would pick John Tudor, Geert Hammink, and Neboisha Bukimirovich over Ben Simmons' jank arse. He did nothing for LSU. He played for himself.

He can go kick rocks.

Well, I watched the games too.

Honestly, I felt like Simmons only put one foot on campus (because of the rules) and kept one foot out the door.
It never seemed to ME that he put both feet and all of his heart into his 1 year at LSU. Were his stats amazing, yes. Could LSU have won more games with that roster? Hell yes!!

If you look at the year prior to Simmons' arrival. I saw skrappers who fought for victories and played gritty to get wins. In Simmons' year, everything changed. The whole team played like they were just waiting to go pro.
If I am being 100% honest, I feel that Simmons infected the team in the locker room with a DGAF attitude that translated to some suprising losses.

All of this is my opinion, but from what I observed......this is why I have a problem annointing him one of the greatest Tigers ever.

And to really, really honest....I have a gut feeling he had already agreed to his shoe contract in Austrailia before he even got to LSU. This is pure speculation at how quickly the announcement after he declared. Same day if I remember correctly.

Sophomore year
In April 2013, he helped Montverde rally from a 16-point deficit to beat New Jersey's St Benedict's 67–65 in the final of the High School National Tournament.

Junior year
Montverde finished the season with a 28–0 record, closing with a 71–62 victory over Oak Hill Academy in the High School National Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Simmons had 24 points and 12 rebounds as he earned MVP honours.[27][28] Following the season, he was named America's top high school junior and was voted MVP at the National Basketball Players' Association Top 100 camp.[29]

Senior year

On 28 January 2015, Simmons was named as a starter for the East team to compete in the 38th annual McDonald's All-American Game.[30][31] On 10 March 2015, he was named the Morgan Wootten Award winner, given annually to the best male McDonald's All-American player who exemplifies outstanding character, exhibits leadership, and embodies the values of being a student-athlete in the classroom and in the community. He was then named the Naismith Prep Player of the Year on 12 March[33] and the Gatorade National Player of the Year on 24 March after leading the Eagles to a 28–1 record and a berth in the High School National Tournament for the third straight year.[34] In 29 regular season games, he averaged 28.0 points, 11.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 70.7 percent from the field and recording 24 double-doubles.[34]

Simmons at a closed McDonald's All-American practice
After competing in the 2015 McDonald's All-American Game on 1 April, Simmons led Montverde Academy to a third consecutive High School National Tournament title with a 70–61 win over Oak Hill Academy on 4 April at Madison Square Garden. He again earned MVP honours after recording 58 points and 35 rebounds over the three-day tournament.[35][36] He then competed in the 2015 Nike Hoop Summit for the World Team on 11 April and scored 13 points in a 103–101 win over Team USA.[37]

Weird isn't it. He was, three years in a row, the best high school player in America. He leaves LSU and is rookie of the year in the NBA.
Yet according to you negatigers Ben was the problem.
Hmmm? What is wrong with that picture?

What a crock of shite, you and the loon who posted before you either didn’t watch the games or you don’t know a thing about sports. Ben Simmons did more on the basketball court than pretty much any Tiger in history. You don’t lead a team with 3 other pros in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in the SEC without playing your arse off. These ignorant type posts just proves how little some of our fans know about basketball.

I was told by a couple of fellow LSU fan s who watched it, and knowing what a die-hard LSU hoops fan I am, not to watch it that it would piss me off. So I have not and will not.

I get that he thinks the system that tied his hands and required he either go to Europe or somewhere overseas or play one year of college ball is not fair, and hey maybe it's not...I understand his take there. I

But once you are part of a team, for me you give it all until you are not anymore. And he absolutely did not do that here, he quit down the stretch, and I don't care how inadequate CJJ was and how much of a delusional POS Q was, you ball to the end, and if you don't to me it tells me something about you.

most criminally disrespected and underappreciated tiger of all time.

He didn’t help himself not wanting to be a leader and not wanting to put the team on his back.

Passing on the final possession against Marquette. Disappearing against Oklahoma when Buddy was taking over.

5 rebounds, 2 steals 4 shot attempts including the final points all in the final 2 minutes of the Marquette game. To question the character of someone based on a single pass after he did all that in the clutch is either insanity or bias. Does LeBron or Jordan suck too for making late game passes?

yep, those two games are huge memories for me too. Generational talents don't run and hide in crunch time.

And he basically quit in his finale, a wonderful 4-11 FG, 2-7 FT effort in a 33 point loss to A&M in the SEC tournament.

Great players elevate and carry their teams, not just build a hollow stat sheet.

Ben simmons gave more to lsu basketball yesterday than you ever will, let alone when he was on the team.

He is a tiger. In 50 years it will be known that Simmons went to lsu.

No one will remember catman's contribution to lsu.

His numbers went up in SEC play and in wins which means he did perform better vs the better teams and did carry the team to its wins. I wonder if you judge other players the same way? It’s a pretty safe bet you don’t.

Is this your stance for Pistol too?

There are no hollow stats in basketball.its not like football where a great oline can be attributed to rushing yards.

Its amazing that no other fans hate on their one and dones. These are people that have never contributed shite to lsu basketball shitting on a player that couldve went anywhere and chose lsu. They really think Ben simmoms should outweight TQ going rouge, losing our only 3pt threat, and a junior college coach.

did Pete have any other NBA/pro players on his roster (like Blakeney, Quarterman, Hornsby, Gray, Sampson)? I suspect his roster was filled with scrubs, but maybe I'm wrong.

And Pete led LSU to the NIT Final Four, back when the NIT was a big deal.

So having one of the most productive seasons ever for a sec player showed you he didnt care for lsu?

It’s funny nobody ever rips Chris Jackson for having poor NCAA tourney performances or for leaving the most loaded team we ever had early. Nobody hates Stanley Roberts or Brandon Bass or Blakeney or anyone who leaves early for that matter. They all hate Simmons because of what he said about the NBAs rule. He’s never ripped LSU that’s a made up narrative and ppl who don’t even bother to look for the truth just repeat it totally ignorant of the facts. We all knew he was a 1 and done and if fans have something against that then they must’ve enjoyed all those losing seasons with nobody’s being recruited.

Yes Pete had a pro on his team.

Why arent you blaming those other pros instead of the player that actually produced.

No there isnt. Please explain. Using your logic, every stat aquired during a loss is a hollow stat.

Its impossible to be top 5 in ppg, rpg, apg, stealspg, fta pg and they be hollow.
Youre just spouting off about hollow stats so you dont have to address his massive amount of production that was greater than every single sec player.
