Very excited, although I’ve never done it. Anyone have experience doing it?

Neverbeen but on my Bucket list. Got a buddy from North Dakota that has told me stories. But his stories involved lots of pot and whisky. When we went pheasant hunting his friends had just bought a really nice camper with ice fishing holes in the floor. Like camping and fishing looks fun to me

Tradition is you have to dip you balls in the hole or you won’t catch anything..

Not in Minnesota, but have done it here. There's usually lots of beer involved in ice fishing

Nope but it's on the bucket list.

Not out in the cold. Wanna be in one if those fancy shacks watching football whilst I rip lips.

Bring you a couple bags of Taters....

Once the whole is cut start peeling the potatoes and cutting them in thin slices and throw them in the hole. It makes a light spot on bottom and you can see the fish a the depth you need to drop your bait.

I grew up there and ice fishing was my favorite type of hunting or fishing.

Are you going for walleyes? What lake? They're the best tasting fish that swims. Use minnows through the top fin with pencil bobbers and fish 12 - 18" off the bottom.

When a walleye strikes he grabs the minnow then turns it to swallow it head first. How the translates to you on the surface is: your bobber is going to go down the hole about a foot then stop for a few seconds. He's turning the minnow. When he takes off again set the hook. If you try to set it before the pause you'll probably lose him.

I assume she rented you a house. That in itself is a ton of fun cooking and playing cards, but don't be afraid to go outside the house to mingle with your neighbors or try diggin holes outside the house.

The ideal spot to fish is over a drop off. My dad used to use a depth finder in the summer to find one to place his house over in the winter. I know it can be done in the winter as well, but it's more difficult. Maybe technology has advanced to where you can do it without a traditional depthfinder.

Hope you have a great time! Bring a little schnapps and dress for it, especially your feet and hands. Btw, shed your gloves to set the hook. Just kneel on the ice or the floor of your ice house and set it with your bare hands on the line. And be careful when he gets close to the surface. You can knock him off the hook if he hits the bottom of the ice. If you can use an ice chisel to flare the bottom of the hole. Otherwise just take your time to get his nose under the hole to pull him through.

Have fun!

Bout to catch you some perch and not the Louisiana kind. Good ice fishing is a good time, bad ice fishing you are freezing your fingers and toes off staring at a hole. Nice thing is you only need a cooler for your beer if it’s too cold outside to prevent them from freezing. If it’s nice out you can just throw the fish and beer on the ice.

Sounds great! Not for me cause I'm a wimp when it gets cold, and I imagine sitting on top of ice is cold. And getting wet would be colder. And any wind would be colder.

I'm gonna put on a jacket now, brb.

Hope you have a great time!

Sounds awesome!
I have never been fishing but have ridden around on a lake in a buddy's truck. Lots of creaking and cracking while driving around.
A buddy here goes every year in February. They catch a few fish, but it is mostly drinking beer and cooking.

It’s a gift certificate to use with Sportmans Lodge. I am going to call this morning and find out more. Looks nice on the website.
