I’m an Outlaw Country Fan...and I love neotrad Country guys like Cody Jinks, Stapleton, Sturgill, etc. But Colter is the ultimate throwback.

Listen to Sleeping on the Blacktop...

Then listen to Thinkin’ On a Woman...

Dave Cobb produces both albums. Hard to believe this kid is 23...and that he recorded these in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Apologies in advance if he’s been discussed here before...

Colter Bell is to Johnny Cash

As

GVF is to Led Zeppelin

Both very refreshing emulators of a bands and songwriters from the best era of music.

Like Colter, but I really really like Cody Jinks. Been listening to his catalog extensively lately.

Cody is fantastic. But Colter is a lot more stripped down and unproduced with his sound. Which is why it seems like he and Dave Cobb seem to click real well.

He’s also been around for a whole helluva lot less time than Cody. Jinks was 15 when Colter was born. Taysom Hill of the Saints is half a decade older than Wall. He’s got wayyyyyy less recorded music to sift through. Give him some time.

I’m optimistic that this cat is gonna pump out some fantastic music over the next decade. Which I am in no way disappointed about.

The casino scene in Hell or High Water put his song Sleeping on the Blacktop to good use.

Great take. I’m certain your familiarity with him as an artist informs your take. Which-judging from the fact that you don’t eve know his name-I’m certain I’ll take said opinion with the necessary weight and validity it deserves.

Totally off-topic: Do you live near Bozeman?

I like Colter. I need more Sleeping on The Blacktop and less pretending to be a 1890s rancher. He comes off as a bit of a dork.

I really like Colter, especially Sleeping on the Blacktop. Tyler Childers is another one for your list. Awesome voice and songwriter. Love everything he does.

My buddy just texted me about him last week. Loving all the new neotrad choices in modern country...

So did you ever check out the Mystery Ranch factory? It's located out in Bozeman. Dana Gleason is the driving force behind the company.

I have recently become obsessed with their products. Wife got me a briefcase for my EDC at the office from Santa this year, and for my birthday she got me another bag to use for fishing and hunting trips.
