Anybody else notice this when they quit drinking?

I quit drinking about a week ago for weight loss reasons. I was normally drinking 4 to 6 craft beers or a few neat whiskeys a night. It's probably been about 4 or 5 years since I have gone more than 1 night (and those were rare) without drinking. Enough to get a really strong buzz or be a little drunk. The last week my dreams have been intense. I'll wake up and have to try and figure out if the dream is over or not. How long does this shite last?
It's easier than I thought it would be to quit. I just stay busy. I also read before bed instead of watching tv, that seems to have helped. I think drinking was mainly a boredom thing for me. I was never late to work, driving around drunk, or any other destructive shite like that. I'm not morbidly obese or anything like that, just trying to get in better shape before hunting season

nothing calms me down right before bedtime like a good book, some decaffinated coffee and a few hits of acid

Maybe getting to work on time was the dream.

Lucid dreaming with withdrawals. Doesn't last long.

When you are drinking, you don’t go into REM (dream) sleep. When you stop drinking your body is catching up all of the lost REM that was missed but needed.
this was on a joe Rogan episode with a sleep specialist. It was really interesting.

Sounds like your body is trying to readjust to life without booze and the weird dreams are just a result of such.
Keep it up dude (non-alcoholic beer of course)

When you have drug induced sleep you don’t have rem sleep and when you sober up you catch up on all your rem sleep hence the dreams

Start getting some exercise. Sucks at first but you'll get used to it and it'll help you sleep. Helped me a lot. I was a full blown alcoholic though. Just made a year without.

All that drinking and you've never driven after a couple?

I don't drink but take a puff of bud every now and again.
When I don't partake I seem to have very vivid and strange dreams.

You probably have a larger bank account too. Dang.
Congrats on the no drinking!

No way you drank that much a night "just to get a buzz".

This is me and I'm sure it's just boredom too.
Either I drink 4/6 beers or 2/3 neats(3rd btl?). I wonder what's more fatting?

Yeah, thats not very healthy. You would be considered to have an alcohol problem to experts based on this amount consumption

Try some melatonin, but are you feeling tired in the morning? if not, I'd chalk it up to getting better sleep

I have been the exact same way. I always drink a few beers or have a little whiskey at night after work, but as of today I will not be drinking on Sundays or any week nights. My reasoning is weight loss and trying to sleep better as well. I'll get back to this thread if I start having the intense dreams.
I'm not a doctor or anything, but I have done a lot of research on the subject for health reasons. The reason the dreams are so intense is because your body is trying to make up for all of the nights that you slept without getting into the REM stage of sleep. The alcohol suppresses REM sleep, so when drinking you go to sleep faster but without ever getting into the deepest possible sleep. This is why alcoholics experience delusions when quitting. There body knows that they missed so many years of REM sleep that the body starts to force the person to "dream" while they are awake.
