TOPS has to be earned. It cannot be just given to LSU Baseball players from Louisiana. It is an academic scholarship that must be earned and maintained academically.

If Alabama thought higher ed was important, AL would come up with a similar plan to what GA and LA have.

95%+ of colleges who have baseball teams do not want more schollies for baseball. Baseball loses money bigtime and that would just make it more expensive.

Why would a Bama fan be reading and posting about baseball on an LSU message board? Bama is an embarrassment to SEC baseball.

Wrong

It's up to each school to comply with title 9.

Scholarships are limited to save money and to enable poorer schools to compete.

Can u imagine the outcry if Bama got 85 football scollies but LSU got 35. Well, that's what we deal with with baseball. I'm sorry but it's total, total bullshite.

As long as the player has decent grades, they’ll magically end up with academic scholarship(s) to help cover the costs not covered by their athletic scholarship. This happens at almost every school, LSU is just lucky enough that most of thier Louisiana kids are already covered so they don’t have to work the system.

If you're on a baseball scholarship you have to get at least 25% of the total cost covered as well.

The correct answer has been posted multiple times. Title IX dictates that for every male sport scholarship there has to be a female sport scholarship and with 85 allocated to football, there has to be amends and cuts in other male sports to compensate. Hence why the creation of more female college sport teams after the ratification of Title IX

You used to be able to sign a guy for books but starting about 10 years ago if you are going to have a kid on a baseball scholarship it’s needs to be at least 25%. It’s something else watching coaches try to figure out that part of it. Fans would be surprised who gets how much. Lot of guys get academic money or some other sort of aid. Plus baseball recruiting is so difficult because it’s hard to separate the 5 o’clock hitters from the guys who can really do it. My senior year at ULL when we went 45-17 and finished 2nd at A&M regional we had 5 walk ons in the starting lineup and had some big scholarship guys stay not even on the travel roster

Softball fights the same battle. It's not fair, especially when Community Colleges can find the money for full rides.

I don’t know for a fact that this is true for LSU but if one looks at nationwide attendance figures there is almost no interest in college baseball.

LSU got success. Otherwise there’d be no interest here either.

Blame women’s sports if you want. Title ix is complete crap. But college baseball doesn’t really “deserve” money any more than women’s sports at most schools.

Did baseball give full scholarships before Title 9? Baseball was honestly a minor sport on college campuses before Title 9 and in most of the country is in reality still a minor sport.

The 11.7 is stupid.

If we ditch a different men's sport or add an extra women's sport, we could give out more baseball schollies and still comply with Title IX. Stupid that the NCAA doesn't allow it.

It always comes down to money

Smaller schools either can't afford the extra scholarships, or they don't value what the athletes would bring to the school.

they should divide them up equally among all male sports... and go back to real student athletes
