Interesting if he really asked to be released. He should have taken the pay cut.

Wonder if Houston would bring him on for special teams role.

He had his chance at receiver last year and did not separate himself.

5 years in the league a couple as a captain not a bad run, still might get invited to a camp later this year. Best of luck to him either way.

Doing what? Oh yeah that's right, playing the same position he did at LSU. You fricking goon.

When Shepard committed in 2008, it was the greatest day of my life.

We just passed the 10 year anniversary

RS never sniffs the NFL if he isn’t moved to WR and taught the value of working his arse off on special teams.

Because of “idiot Miles” RS is now set with an NFL pension to go along with 5 years of an NFL salary and a very good shot at a high level coaching career to boot.

How was he mismanaged? There was no position on the team at which we were not two deep in players better than him. Don’t forget we had Juice and Odell at WR. They were backed up by Kadron Boone and Wright. Perhaps Shep could have edged one of those out, but what good would that have done us?

It used to be quite the topic of conversation on this board a few years back.

from 2013-2015 every time he caught a pass there would be a 10 page thread on how shitty miles was.

he wasnt. we tried to get him the ball in literally every way possible.
Shep ran horrible routes( which is expected since he never played the position before)and had average hands at best. him staying this long in the nfl is a testament to that mans work ethic and his team first mentality.

hats off to a great Tiger.....

Man I argued with Jake he could be turned into an adequate QB, but mostly because I wanted to believe, his passing was pretty ugly in HS. But it’s still one of the most electric tapes of all time

He deserved more carries running the ball, that's for sure. Whether it be on jet sweeps or read options. That should have been his bread and butter

i've written this many times and will repeat it here.

Shep wasn't good in college. As a receiver, he had stone hands. As a runner, he was fast, but he only had straight-line speed, very little wiggle. And he went down on first contact, and actually fumbled a couple times, if I recall.

I didn't like Miles, but Les gave Shep all the chances he could, and moved him to WR where he could get more touches. It just didn't work out.

Now, I give massive credit to Shep for making an NFL roster for a number of years. I never thought that would happen, so cudos to him.

And, from all I've heard, he's a great guy and we should be proud of him.

Les mismanaged a lot of things, but Shep wasn't one of them.

Russell shepard is as polarizing a topic as Orgeron, the designated hitter and barbeque. shepard was an enigma. there really was nowhere to put him. should've been an apb like he was. that kid was NOT an sec caliber qb. he was a rich man's Lindsay scott jr. also too short and less of an arm. also wasn't as fast as advertised. (ie- ran down by mark barron play in 2010). he did well just to make an nfl roster. not hating on the kid, but he was an offensive tweener.
