If LB Rashaan Evans/ALA or WR Cortland Sutton/SMU are still available when the Saints pick, which one would help the team the most?

LB is probably our most stacked position, so the receiver.

I don't know why everyone is saying we need LBs

Robertson
Te'o
Klein
Anzalone
Kikaha
Stupar
Mauti

Evans we already have a good possession receiver in thomas we need another receiver who can take the top off the defense.

Are you high?

I mean those guys played their arse off but almost all of them outside of Anzalone are average or just slightly above average. And we really don't know how good Anzalone is. Evans would step in right away and be a difference maker.

I would take Sutton, but I wouldn't be upset with an Evans pick.

All of those LBs were backups when signed or are special teams players. The team could certainly use a talent upgrade at LB. All of our guys have weaknesses. The depth is really good though and Te’O and Robertson have been playing the best ball of their careers.

Our LB position became a lot more solid this year than the past, but none of those are really great players or really much more than just average starters. Getting a player with real star potential would be big. Maybe Anzalone has that potential, but at this point he is not reliable.

It would be nice to have multiple linebackers with "star" potential. If Evans has that potential and Anzalone it would be nice to have both of them. Brees has made average WRs look great. Our defense is on their own.
I'd like a solid DL or LB in the 1st unless someone unexpectedly falls 10-15 spots further than anyone expected. Kinda like Lattimore did last year. I'm undecided if it's between two players like Sutton and Evans.

I'm also just not personally sold on Sutton. I haven't done a lot of research or really watched him play, but the little I have read makes it sound like his hype is all about potential right now because of his physical characteristics. It seems like he's more of an athlete and prospect than a good football player right now. That seems risky to me.

Brees can do wonders with someone who can catch. If he has high potential he would reach it with Brees throwing it to him. Of course, a 1st round might be too high for him based on what you've said. In Ireland I trust for the Saints draft pick. We can't whiff on the 1st or 3rd this year. I wonder if they trade our 2019 2nd and 2018 7th for a 3rd round or late 2nd round pick this year. I'm not sure what they'd have to give up to get in the 2nd this year.
The Saints struck gold on Kamara. Hopefully, they can do it again this year.

I'd just rather see them spend the money we have available on WR in FA

True fact:
During the CSP era, a player who actually had decent snaps with the Saints never went on to have a better receiving season after he leaves New Orleans.

Joe Horn
Terrance Copper
Lance Moore
Devery Henderson
Robert Meachem
Jeremy Shockey
Jimmy Graham
Darren Sproles
Kenny Stills
Ben Watson
Nick Toon
Travaris Cadet
and even now Brandin Cooks

My pick would be the BPA on defense. Reasoning is Brees can't make the player on defense better. But if you go grab a free agent WR then Brees can make that guy look better than he previously did. We've seen it a lot with guys coming and going.

Because only 3 on your list were actually on the field for the playoffs, and Mauti and Teo aren’t really starters. A stud LB can transform a defense! Just ask the Giants how they felt about Lawrence Taylor? I know we need another receiver, but a good TE can cover that need for us as well.

All old when they left the Saints and retired shortly after leaving. Devery retired immediately after leaving and never even played for anyone else. Completely dishonest to include them as making any point in your list. Shoot, Joe Horn never had as good of a year after Drew Brees arrived as he did before. Does that mean that Brees made him worse? Or maybe he was just on the downside of his career.

Darren Sproles also had his peak years with the Saints and was obviously aging when he left. He did still have productive years after leaving.

Were never actually any good even with Drew Brees.

I'm not saying that Drew Brees doesn't make wr's better. He obviously does. I just don't like bad arguments, and how you made this argument is pretty bad. The only players on your list that there might actually be a point about are Graham and Cooks. And Graham struggled with bad injuries after he left, and Cooks is one year with his new team where he had pretty much comparable production and only slightly off from what he had with the Saints.
