Additionally, many, many educational hurdles faced by black children are due to shitty families (or lack thereof) holding them back.

Being enrolled in 'college' these days is attractive to those who cannot do anything else - like get married and start a family, hold a meaningful job, fend for yourself.
I have no idea what all these black women are studying in college - Those who study anything worthwile are probably in line with other populations - but I would suspect that a lot of those black women are enrolled in some sort of "study' curriculum that has either "black" or "women's" in its title.
