Well, the crime numbers are actually getting better. Also, it’s pretty remarkable all of the construction going on around town, especially downtown. Plus, the governor just announced the coming of that hi tech company. Additionally, the road work and street drainage projects are making some headway. The latest S&WB problems are a real concern, but I think they are getting addressed.
People should stop being so negative.

I lived in New Orleans for several years. It is a shithole. It is dirty and crime ridden. The leaders of the community desire nothing good for the city. They are involved only to retain power and line their pockets. Baton Rouge is fast becoming New Orleans. Shreveport has been lost. I wonder what the common denominator is?

Because they are familiar with it?
Exactly. For example, If this was a Mississippi-centric Board, it’d talk more about Jackson.

Schools have greatly improved over the past 15 years, thanks in large part to the charter school movement, and the infusion of Katrina cash that rebuilt so many of the schools.
Saints are kicking arse, too.

Edwin Edwards said it best: "Without New Orleans Louisiana is Mississippi"

I lived in that shithole for 10 years......saw the handwriting on the wall.
Now, live in the same dwindling type of area, Ascension Parish.....
But, the damn money is GOOD!!!

Sucks for them. My family has lived in prairieville for 25 years and had a high school student burglarize their vehicle once. The police caught them and got their belongings back within a few days. Now, let’s compare the murder rate between ascension parish and New Orleans.

Good news, most of Louisiana thinks just like you.

Lived there for many years and visit regularly.
Would NEVER live there again. Fu king..ever.
Once you live somewhere that has their shite together New Orleans seems even shittier than it already did.

There may be 2 other major American cities that have crime rates comparable to New Orleans.

But so does Baton Rouge. So does Shreveport. So does every city in America of any size (particularly in the east and south).
True, but many pretentious NOLA folks act as if they live in Prague so their problems are insignificant.

White progressives who came to New Orleans following Katrina have ruined the city.

BR isn’t too far behind the curve on this if it isn’t common place already.

Because it is a shite hole. And yes, I grew up there. The city started going down hill way back in the day Of Moon.

I just can't figure out why mouth breathers get so much joy and satisfaction slamming Nola and declaring it a shithole. It's better than 99% of the rest of this ignorant cesspool of a state.
I hear shite hole used a lot, but can't figure out why 10 million people decided to visit here last year with more to come next year.
How is it that a shite hole has built all of these new condos and urban developments as well has almost every neighborhood going through gentrification. As a result real estate prices are soaring because people are wanting to live here.
It has problems no doubt, but it's not a 90% welfare queen project living shithole like many try to claim.

You could name about 20-30 cities where this occurs.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Compared to the crime in BR pville is Mayberry but there's some crime in Ascension

My biggest gripe is that the government has these blatantly obvious problems and seemingly does nothing about them. Crime spreading like a cancer in your main tourist attraction? Meh. Hardly any pumps working and you can't drain your below sea level city? What is this statue doing over here!
