Hitting my irons exceptionally well, chipping from around the green has saved me a ton of strokes, but man my driver is killing me.

give me some tricks to shake it off. i think it is more mental and getting worse through the round.

main thing i am seeing is a duck hook right now. if i hit a second one, it is crushed right down the middle, really frustrating.

Put your change in your left pocket and wear your hat upside down.

one piece take away like your handing somebody a basket of water, then reach up to the sky like your putting a trophy on a shelf, then come through like your skipping a rock and throwing a frisby.

if that was what your lesson was you just took, i dont want any part of it

eta: is this also Jim Furyk's swing technique? it sounds like someone describing his swing.

Hmmmm.... without seeing your swing, I can only imagine that you are:

A) over swinging on the first ball and swinging smooth one the second one

B) swinging easy on the first swing trying to guide it, and pounding the second one with your normal/real swing.

I am having the same problem. I am working on a more neutral grip rather than the stronger one I have played with since high school, but it is taking some time to adjust

It’s all mental at this point. Tee off with a 3 wood and quit being intimated by the big stick.

See... I'm not keen on using a 3 wood if the driver is sucking. The problem with the 3 wood is the sweet spot is even smaller, so
stats would show that hitting a 3 wood would be worse.

Aim small, miss small? Doesn’t necessarily have to be a 3 wood but if you’re hitting your irons well, why not sacrifice distant off the tee for accuracy? Sure, you’ll have an extra club into the green but you’re eliminating the penalty shot if you duck hook OB.

I’m all for gripping it and ripping it off the tee and taking my medicine on having an inconsistent driver. I’ve just now been adopting the art of nerd golf and find that it’s helping lower the scores.

I'm now getting into nerd golf and figuring out the statistics on certain shots. Not easy since it's all what I do, not the average golfer. A punch shot may be better in certain spots than trying to be brave and go over a tree, etc.

That seems like it would be the case....but I gave up on my driver because I have an incredibly terrible slice with it. I hit my 3 wood much more straight. For the life of my, I can't figure out how to fix my nasty slice on the driver.

Maybe overswinging. That causes me to duck hook.

Probably over thinking things. Try to simplify things. Like focus only on the contact, ball on the middle of the club face is a great last thought before you swing

Without seeing your swing, my 2 misses that produce the dreaded duck hook off the tee are:

1.) Grip it and rip it mentality. I try way to hard to hit the ball and not swing through the ball.

2.) Ball placement/tee height. move the ball back in your stance a little and see what happens.

The second ball is your Bubba...Gets up and just hits it. You don't worry about trying to Aim the shot, you just get up and hit it.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, normally tee ball is the strongest part of my game. Worry more about just hitting the damn thing, instead of trying to hit it to a certain spot or target.

Aim and go...you can't think to little but can out think the swing.
