Many pegged Key as LSU's best player prior to the start of the season.
He came back from a still mysterious absence and seemingly late surgery way overweight and out of shape.
I couldn't see much progress in his weight or conditioning last week and assume that if he was making good progress in practice, we would hear something about it.
Has anybody seen or heard anything on this continuing mystery?

it ain't really a mystery for starters.

and i really have long term questions about him heading into draft with this poor conditioned year and how quickly he can look like arden key of old.

To quote Buddy Ryan about one of his players nicknamed "The Destroyer":

"The only thing I've seen him destroy so far is a cheeseburger."

This is what Coach O said Monday about Key.
quote:

Q. Coach, how would you evaluate how Arden (Key) has been in his first two weeks back? Do you think he's still easing back in?

ED ORGERON: No question, rusty. Rusty, very rusty. But you know what? He's his hardest critic. He's down to 260 now, and we want to lose some more weight, but he's not in football shape. I said that to him coming out. He's not superman, and he knows it. He wants to do great. He missed three sacks. He was all over the quarterback. He could have come out with three sacks in that game like that. He was just one step away of an elusive quarterback. Could have had a great game, he didn't have it.

He missed a couple assignments. He did some things well. I talked to him yesterday on the phone. He was in good spirits. He's going to come in today and work very hard. Maybe I can convince him to stay for another year and get better.

Remember all the dancing banana threads the idiots would start every time Key tweeted out his weight over the summer?

This is great news.

He'll be in good shape in a month or so. Just takes time and its great to know he recognizes it and is working to get to that point.

Key going AWOL for the whole spring semester, another sign that O can manage a program of this (or any) level.

I remember Key busting his arse the off season before his freshman year. Gaining like 12 lbs of muscle.

Such a crazy arse turn of events leading to this season. He definitely has it in him. It’s just disappointing right now.

According to the rant if he doesn't get 12 sacks a game he sucks and something is wrong with him.

I'm supremely critical of Orgeron and was pissed at his hiring.

But this isn't on him. I think Key had an emotional/mental breakdown and needed to be with family.

I just wish he'd gotten the shoulder surgery earlier.

frick any LSU "fan" who continues to perpetuate this myth about Leonard. Go back and watch the end of the Wisconsin and Auburn games and see how much pain he was in and yet he continued to be on the field to try and give the team a chance to win. He averaged over 100 yards a game on one leg. He stopped being a part of the team at the end because he wasn't healthy enough to play again and it was time to move on, not because he didn't care.
