Mike Tomlin has issue with Alejandro Villanueva coming out for the National Anthem?

That's a little fricked up if true. Dude deployed to afgahnistan.
On further review, he didn't say shite about him specifically and it didn't sound like he implied anything about him.

That guy had friends dying beside him in battle, and Tomlin's worried about his football team..... Tomlin can get fricked with the rest of them.
I agree with keeping your team out of sight, thats actually probably smart. But to call him out for doing that was likely a bad mistake

I have somewhat a problem with Villanueva on this.
He is an West Point grad, which is why he did this. But you go to his Ranger training and values, which is group first. He put himself over his team. Now here is the tricky part, he wasn't really on the field, so he did not make it about himself. But the photo is clear he is in sight. The team apparently voted to stay in.
Tomlin said he did not want politics involved and they were one and just came to play "a damn football game".
I appreciate what both are saying/doing.

I'm sure he wanted 100% participation, which is why they stayed in the tunnel.
I don't think he's too worried with Villanueva on a personal level though. He'd rather them all do it together, but if one guy is going to come out, he's the one to do it.

Why does their logic never adhere to the exact opposite of their position? Why wouldn't his football team be respectful of their own teammate who served 3 tours in Afghanistan and stand for the anthem with him?

I understand Mike's position considering he doesn't want much division on the team since essentially the entire team agreed to remain in the tunnel during the Anthem and he is the head man so apparently Villanueva was able to convince him to permit this expression, really depends on context but thats what I'm inferring. Now from a PR standpoint, this is a VERY precarious position for Tomlin to be in considering how divisive this issue is.

I was rather OK with the kneeling and sitting in the locker room, as long as they did not bash those that choose to stand and salute. But since it appears that line has been crossed... frick them.

Villanueva went to West Point and served three terms throughout Afghanistan while receiving numerous condemnations and honors. I'm sure he had numerous friends and heroes not make it back from that sandbox/hellhole during their tour of duty.
In short, frick you and frick your stupid football team and their need to be respected. I don't give a rat's arse about certain Steeler "role models" like Roethlisberger or the swell, chip of the block Joey Porter's respect.
