I'm late to the party - just now watching Mad Men, now in the middle of season 3.
Betty treats her kids like shite. I honestly cannot think of a worse TV mother - Livvia Soprano maybe???

That's the way kids were treated in those days, they weren't given Tahoes at 16 and Mustangs at 18. That's what is wrong with all these pansy kids today...spoiled.

I didn't really see anything wrong with her. Seems like she got a lot of hate. I don't really understand it. She's a little delicate and maladjusted because she has never had to fend for herself and thus never really developed. Not something that I think makes her a bad person or parent.

I love the scene where Sally has a garment bag from the cleaners over her head playing spaceman.
Betty's reaction: "If the clothes from that dry cleaning bag are on the floor of my closet, you're going to be a very sorry young lady!"
I also love it when the kids pile in the front seat with Don, no seat belts or car seat, and Don fires up a cig before he drives away.
