Yahoo news

quote:

Amazon has been monitoring and deleting reviews after Hillary Clinton's new book was greeted with a torrent of criticism on the day it was released. What Happened, which covers the former Secretary of State's unsuccessful election campaign against Donald Trump, was published on Tuesday.

Clinton and her publisher Simon & Schuster claimed the book would offer a candid account of her failure and her own reflection on it. Reviews of What Happened have been mixed, with some suggesting it Clinton uses it as an opportunity to blame others – such as Bernie Sanders and Vladimir Putin – for her failure, rather than herself.

In The New York Times, which supported Clinton's campaign, Jennifer Senior writes that the book is "a score-settling jubilee". The readers on Amazon, meanwhile, are even more divided – but not all of them have read the book.

The online retail giant has a "verified purchase" option to signpost whether reviewers have bought a product, and none of the 42 reviewers leaving comments on Tuesday had done so.

And like that...

This sets a solid precedent for the makers of sugar free gummybears to get the justice they feel they deserve.

All Amazon reviews should be by verified purchasers

The whole absurd thing started a couple of weeks ago before the book was released. There were multiple 5-star reviews essentially saying they were there to offset the Trump trolls. Multiple 1-stars objecting to the premise of the book. I think right now it's still practically a 1 and 5-star split.

Agree with whomever said should be limited to verified purchasers.

Kaiser Soze! Great flick.

For every one fake 1* review, there are two 5* reviews even before actually reading it Amazon is a cesspool as well as Tweetersphere

I Just checked and if they're removing 1 star reviews, they're losing a game of whack a mole

Also: IIRC, Amazon used to only accept verified buyer reviews. Did they remove the default setting to pimp her shitty book? The MSM has been drooling over it.

I've had many fake reviews on Amazon, including some where the reviewer said, "Awesome book. My kid loved it! It's our favorite" then gave it one star.

eta: first three comments on that article up right now--woke!:

Funny, there have been troll reviews of products on Amazon since their inception and hordes of people asking Amazon to pull out those obvious trolling remarks but with no action. But lordy, they are working overtime to weed out the trolls who are bashing Hillary and her book. Pretty disgusting. You aren't supposed to have a political agenda, Amazon. You are supposed to sell stuff. And if you are going to weed out the negative reviews for Hillary's items, you need to weed out ALL trolling reviews from other items.

The Fascists are doing what they do best censoring and deleting things they don't agree with.

Amazon has employed Media Matters, a Soros sponsored organization that is widely derided as hugely biased, untruthful and flagrant, to advise them on such matters. What do you expect?

They rigged the primary for her. Now they are rigging book reviews.

They really go to extremes to polish this turd.

Are they deleting the recommendations for other books as well?

"Others who viewed this book also viewed 1984, The Communist Manifesto, and The Milli Vanilli Story."

I guess the amazon review system is the deciding factor for people and not all the interviews and press she's gotten...or that she's one of the most famous people on earth...no, I needed an amazon review to tell me whether I want to read a ghost written book

I bet if I look at a book by say...ted cruz or Donald trump. there will be a bunch of shitposting. I guess Hillary gets special treatment because she's a woman which puts a pretty big dent in her claim that being a woman is a disadvantage because America is so sexist.

ETA: I fully support trolls overwhelming review sections with shite posting. we need to hit them on every conceivable front and overwhelm them.

Why not do this for Trump's book ("Great Again") also?

That books is currently at 4.6 stars out of 2,033 reviews. It has 285 1-star reviews with only 32 of those being "verified".... You know good for the goose and all that...

If people are not reading the book and just 1-staring it for the hell of it, then Amazon should be deleting those reviews.

I mean, come on, that's pretty damn petty to 1-star someone's product that you did not use/buy

The one-star reviewers need to hit Amazon's GoodReads--that sort of obviates the "verified purchase" issue. or should.

This situation is like me or navytiger or zztiger starting a thread calling for serious considerations.
10 minutes later, reactionaries post that tl;dr and DV.

This may have been mentioned since reviewed this thread, but I just read that Amazon's policy is to "normalize" reviews of autobiographical works, by removing one-star reviews. I'm certain that is not the actual policy. Why would you delete the low-end outliers and leave the 5-stars?
