Herbie

He may be tired of getting burned by LSU as he has hyped us the last couple of years and we've fallen far short of his expectations. He may have shifted into "prove it" mode on LSU. I don't blame him, as I am kinda there myself.

there probably aren't ten posters here that could talk real football with Herbie.

Judging by the Score Board, I'd go lower

I know our schedule has not been much to talk about although the BYU game did get a little convo. College Football Live has not spoken a word about LSU since the season has started. I do take that back, they mentioned the State game right at the end of yesterdays show. Stated, "I wonder if Key will get a shot at kicking a FG"

I personally love it. Let us keep flying under the radar. Keep talking about Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and Ohio St because that is all they keep talking about every week.

Everyone knows Aranda is the best. He won't get the credit he's due until we beat the big teams like Venables has done.

Im high on aranda and his defense, although we beat Louisville and Lamar Jackson, who has LSU beat with a big name since Aranda has been here?

Clemsons been to the ship 2 times in the past two years and won one. So he's going to get a lot of credit from the critiques, especially after beating Ohio State and Alabama in consecutive weeks.

If he stays another year and we get to that level of SEC championships, CFP and beat the top teams in the nation he'll get his consideration. However, you all know who is the best. We have the best DC in all of college football imo.

I understand what you're saying, but he had 3 top 5 defenses at Wisconsin, and a top 5 defense at LSU which led the country in touchdowns allowed in his first year.

He also did much better against Louisville and Alabama, our two common opponents with Clemson last year.

Venables is very, very good, but he gets scorched a few times a season when he really shouldn't.

No surprise most of you took what I said out of context (sort of).

My point: Brent is good obviously, his team went to back-to-back CFP and NC appearances. A bad coach cannot accomplish those things, so props to Coach Venables for doing so. IMO, his most impressive win last year was the 31-0 shut out of OSU, thats one hell of an accomplishment.

I was trying to point out that Aranda's D out performed Venable's D against both of our shared opponents last year (Bama and Louisville).

I wish this board would pick a narrative and stick with it. One day, someone talks positively about our coach(es) and they're considered an idiot, sunshine pumper. The next day, someone says something negative about our coach(es) and their an arsehole negatiger.

In no way was I bashing Venables or saying he's a scrub. Dude is clearly and very good and well accomplished coach. Just from the eye test, on the games where we played the same team, our D out played theirs. That. Is. All. Good grief.

probably, and to be clear so am not one that could.

I do think we have a few college players on here though, they probably could. But Herbstreit knows his stuff most of the time.

Like talking to Lynn Rollins about LSU trivia, he is a damn encyclopedia. Love him or not he knows a whole lot about LSU athletic history

Who cares. When they fover LSU, it is Aranda, when they cover Clemson it is Venables. When they cover Penn St., James Franklin is the best coach in the country.

I think Brent Venables (Clemson DC) is the best DC in the country

Not exactly a controversial statement.

It's splitting hairs. He knows Aranda is great. Someone has to go #1. Clemson has the #2 D in the country now, higher than ours and they're just coming off of a NC.

I ask you guys to take a step back, look at this objectively, and look at the body of work. (I know this 100% isn't happening on this board)
Well I stepped back and looked objectively, finding Clemson D gave up >2X points vs common 2016 opponents.(80-37LSU)
IDGAF about Herbie or his DC popularity contest either.

LSU - Louisville 2017

Clemson - Louisville 2017

= LSU better at defending Jackson by far!

I think Venables is certainly a Top 5 - but Aranda's resume speaks for itself at this point. What he did at Wisconsin, he's doing better at LSU.

The season is early, but the loss of some very, very good players to the NFL has not hampered the suffocating quality of LSU's defense.

He has pump the game. They all do that. They exaggerate things to make each marquee game seem like the matchup of the century

31 points given up is better than 10? He's a better coordinator because of D. Watson I guess!
