He also did much better against Louisville and Alabama, our two common opponents with Clemson last year. Venables is very, very good, but he gets scorched a few times a season when he really shouldn't.

Yes because 2 games in 1 season settles it

Happen to catch the 2014 B1G Championship Game? Everyone gets torched at some point. Aranda is great, Venables is great, there are other good DCs out there as well.

Who cares what Herbie says? Nonetheless, Venables has been one of the best Defensive Coordinators in college football for years, which is why Venables used to be the highest paid coordinator in college football until coach O and LSU made Dave Aranda the highest paid coordinator in college football.

I kept wondering how long will it be before Aranda is coaching in the NFL. It got me sad.

They will have to match his pay. As he makes more money than every defensive coordinator in the NFL.

My point: Brent is good obviously, his team went to back-to-back CFP and NC appearances.
I don't recall Herbie saying Venables was the best DC after the last two CFP championship games when Clemson gave up 45 and 31 points to Alabama. Herbie is saying this right now because Clemson shut down Auburn last week, which is fine. It was an impressive performance. Herbie will have another flavor of the week soon enough.

If you're a serious follower of college football you may well know as much about the game, the teams and the players as any analyst on ESPN.

They're just talking to earn a paycheck.

correct.

In the pre-internet days, it was more difficult for fans to get info on different teams. Now, we have every piece of info at our fingertips.

So the talking heads don't know any more than we do, and when it comes to LSU, they actually know far less.

Their job is to talk and to get eyeballs on the screen and ears to the radio. Just ignore them all and enjoy the games.
