I am playing devil's advocate here, but people don't have to go to a mega-church/non denom church to accomplish this.

Did he just come out of the closet? It's cool if he did, I don't care.. But I always assumed he was straight.

Dollar to a dime they'd be the church not housing refugees if a hurricane hit BR. They're the Lakewood of Baton Rouge. You're an idiot if you attend a prosperity gospel/doctrine church.

You would lose. Whatever they are they are generous with all assets of the campus and always have been. Pass by there tomorrow and look at the 53' vans loaded heading to Houston and they have already sent several.

Anyone who attends a church in which Dino is still in any form of leadership position sort of deserves to be there including the opportunity-cost harm.

If they do give back and actually help others then I consider them to be more credible.

It's the churches who is run by a pastor who is worth millions of dollars, lives in a multi-million dollar home.. Or like that Joyce Myer?? woman. She has her own plane, etc, etc. Ultimately it's the people who buys into them.. purchase their books, etc, etc that allows them to become that wealthy, but I guess. When I think "Pastor" I think of someone who lives at least a semi-modest life.

Yep. I know a couple of girls there that are involved in there ministry because of bragging on FB. They are always posting scripture and shite. Then I'll see em out trying to go home with every swinging dick at the bar.

I'm not sure what this means. If you go to HPC in a quest to be a "better person" and "love Jesus" (which are actually sort of competing concepts in Christianity), then you've at best made an odd choice.

This is absolutely true. They are extremely involved with the community in several different ways. It's fine to disagree with their doctrine or ways of doing things, but the church actively helps the poor both locally, nationally, and even globally. They ministry in Africa, buying school books and setting up schools. During Katrina, they hosted 1000's of refugees for the first couple of weeks then 100's for longer than that.

Again, disagree with how they raise money if you want but their mission to make the world around them a better place is plain to see if you'd just give them a chance before trying to sound cool by dogging them. No one says you have to join them.

The whole reverse ATM criticism is ludicrous. I watched my parents put cash or check in a designated envelope in the basket at Catholic Church every Sunday while growing up. Times have changed. People don't carry cash anymore. HPC allows people the option of doing it just like my parents and their parents did, or using your debit card to make a donation that way. That's it. I absolutely see nothing wrong with that. I attended HPC for about a year with my ex and I can honestly say I got more out of their services than any 'organized' religion service that I've ever attended. They want you to be part of a group that worships the Lord, studies the Bible, and to actually do something positive for themselves and their community. You don't have to give them money. I never gave a damn dime. The hate that they receive on this board is absolutely ridiculous and shows how ignorant most of you are on the church and their mission.

People hate on the fact that the Pastor has a big house while the freaking Vatican has solid gold door knobs, jewel studded chalices, million dollar paintings, etc.

If HPC was known for anything historically, is that they're one of the best outreach churches in the country. I understand people like to hate on the larger churches, but this criticism is laughable.

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
