Dude we beat BYU and it was basically a home game. Just keep winning and you can't be denied.

The polls don't matter for the playoffs. Effectively LSU must win the SEC to get to the playoffs.

Bama is the only team that has a second path.

Won't see much movement till after the MooU game is my guess. A solid win on the road will get some voters' attention.

Well, they do matter, just not as much as they did before. If the committee is deciding between two conference champions with the same record, ranking as well as other factors are going to come into play.

They just don't matter this early. Shouldn't even bother with rankings until the second half of the season. But like someone said it's to market the games.

FSU got owned at lost their starting qb. LSU will be behind a 1 loss Ohio State and FSU after week 2.

polls are irrelevant. Win the West and get to Atlanta is all that matters for a program like ours.

Even for those people that pay attention to polls, it's silly to do it this early in the season. Far, far too few data points.

If anything, wait until we're most of the way through the season so the picture is clearer. Just like the playoff committee does.

LOL @ Florida and Tennessee rankings

That's purely because they want this to be a ranked CBS matchup during week three.

They dropped from a preseason #4 spot. Do you actually think USC shouldn't be ranked in the top ten after a week one performance?

I'd bet my house that the playoff committee doesn't give one ounce of credibility to some silly media voter poll or "coach's" (read: Grad Assistant) poll.

Polls are a relic from the past. They were silly then, and they're silly and (thankfully) irrelevant now.

UT went from #23 to not receiving a single vote... but they have their own network so it's ok

We're certainly better than Washington too. There's no way they'd match up with us.

One game against BYU and the hot takes are getting kind of heavy.

That's funny. Most of the people that make up the playoff committee probably voted on the polls at one point or another.

FSU should be 13 or lower after the injury to Francois

That's like lowering a team's ranking because they play a tough schedule. It penalizes the team in advance because the voters think they'll lose games, and then the team gets penalized again when they actually do lose them. And, on the off chance they overcome the tough schedule (or key injury) and still win anyway, they've already been penalized in the rankings and any gain they get is just making up ground they already lost from being penalized in advance.

FSU should be ranked wherever the voters think their performance against Alabama warrants. Voters should never let their expectations about what a team will do down the road affect their current ranking, which should be based solely on what they've done. Obviously, in preseason rankings, you only have expectations to go by, but once they've played, let their play speak for itself and let their future play also speak for itself when the time comes.

We won't break the top 10 until we put it on State, if we do that. I think we can and will. Aranda will game plan for State QB like he did for L Jackson. Keep him in the pocket, collapse the pocket on him for a sack or get those hands up, while playing great coverage. Stop the run, force them into long down distance, and send people from all direction to confuse him.

LSU offense will be most creative in this game plus we might have Key back, smiles. If we can beat State 42-13 or something like this, it will look good and get us into the top 8 or so. If we open up the offense a little in this next game, we could show the country that we do indeed have what it takes to beat anyone. Run it up IMO. Don't hold anything back, score in the RZ and it should be over by halftime. Get the youngsters some reps. Would really like to see Brennen sling it for an entire half. GT

Any team with a great pass rush could best Washington. That is not just based off of the BYU game. That's going back to last season.
