I'd give him a blank check to stay and if he still leaves, at least LSU did their best.

Not everyone wants to be the Browns defensive coordinator believe it or not.

This ain't the damn draft. If he keeps it up he'll have D.C. offers from playoff teams.

Playoff teams normally don't fire their coordinators

Playoff teams usually have coordinators offered HC jobs.

No, they sometimes leave for HC jobs.

Uptopar...would you rather not have elite coordinators? These are the guys actually doing more coaching and play calling than CEO.

think NFL DC will be his next move. I could see it happening after this year. Hopefully it doesn't, but this is the risk you run when you rely on elite coordinators on both sides of the ball.

Does anyone say this if Saban loses an OC, if Urban loses a DC, or Dabo if he loses either? We have had a great D for how many years? How many DC? Aranda is one of a kind but i worry very little about D.

At some point the conversation will be O or Aranda.
the only way that ever becomes a conversation is if we're losing a lot of games.

if you can think of any time in history where a winning head coach was fired to hire his coordinator because they were afraid the coordinator might leave and become a better head coach than the one they have i'll surely listen but i don't believe that has ever happened. Ever.

I'd rather the elite coordinator be made into HC. That way you keep him for the long haul.

Of course I want elite coordinators. What kind of question is that? I worry about a plan that requires 2 elite coordinators to be successful. Under that plan, you're probably replacing one of your coordinators every 2 to 3 years. What happens when you botch one of the hires.

Saban, Meyer, Swinney, Orgeron.

One of these is not like the others...

He'll leave eventually, but consider this:

1. He is being paid as well as any DC in college or pros
2. He is given free reign to implement his system (no micromanaging)
3. LSU is a historically great D recruiting program (2019 may be one of the best)
4. He is on a team full of super talented freshmen he can mold into a legendary D
5. He is basically elevated to king status in the state
6. Potential to play for championships in the top football conference

He may just decide to stick around a while.

You don't think that conversation hasn't already taken place?

We've had a great D under Chavis and Aranda. We've had very average Ds under Steele and Malveto. So, we're batting .500 on DC hires in the last 10 years or so.

Dude is moving up the coaching ladder. He will be a head coach soon. We threw our eggs in the wrong basket
