millennials finally realized those shitty IPAs weren't worth it and switched to hard liquor. Getting smarter all the time.

I sell wine and spirits so this news is good for me, but IPAs are delicious so frick you

When it comes to beer, it's likely quality over quantity. One IPA has more alcohol in it than 3 domestic lite beers.
For more millennials though, with less disposable income than past generations, they are choosing to spend more money on drugs and less on alcohol and tobacco.

I'm guessing it's this way in other states, but yeah - there are still microbreweries multiplying, but it seems like everyone and his brother is distilling. I know this sounds stupid, but there are so many beer and liquor choices now that I wonder how anyone actually makes good money on it.
I went on an anti-IPA rant to a rep for a local microbrewery and he said IPA is 80% of their business. Necessary evil.

Which is weird because they go so well with beer.

Makes sense, craft brews are more expensive. Also, the addicts are going to pills instead of alcohol. 80/20 rule.

Good. The IPA trend can't die soon enough.

That article...
Is quite hyperbolic and misleading. Youths aren't drinking the big name brands, they've gone to craft. Natty light etc still holds strong, but Bud/Miller/Sam etc are losing heir share with rapidity.

Why? There are more choices in varying styles than ever. That's all I care about.

Why? I love IPAs.
I assume beer sales are down because of rather drink two or three ipas than 10-12 coors lights like my dad did.

As for why that bothers him, well your guess is as good as mine. My guess is that he's one of those folks that gets bothered by petty shite.

The average IPA is between 6-7%. The average domestic lager is around 5%. Of course, there are wide variations, but the difference isn't that drastic.

I guess you can only debate hop profiles for so long. Craft cocktails provide more latitude for including uncommon or hard to pronounce ingredients that are perfect for the condescending hipster types. Makes sense.
