IMO, a sandwich is a type of food where bread is basically a deliver 'vehicle' for some sort of other type of food (meat, vegetables, etc...)
By that definition, I would say that a hot dog is a sandwich. I can admit though, that I never think of a hot dog if someone mentions the word sandwich.

So, using that definition, spinach and artichoke dip with toast points would be a sandwich. You end up ensnaring many dip combinations with that definition.
