from the commissioner himself
quote:

Let me go back to a conversation we've had already. I think for us to expand we need to be resolved in Tampa and Oakland in terms of their stadium situations. As much as I hope that both Oakland and Tampa will get stadiums, I think it would be difficult to convince the owners to go forward with an expansion until those situations are resolved.

Once they're done, I think we have some great candidates. I know the mayor of Montreal has been very vocal about bringing baseball back to Montreal. It was not great when the Expos left. The fact of the matter was baseball was successful in Montreal for a very long time. Charlotte is a possibility. And I would like to think that Mexico City or some place in Mexico would be another possibility.

Also should be noted that the Dodgers and Padres may end up playing a regular season series in Mexico city sometime in the near future

It'd be nice to have another team towards the southeast. Don't know how many players would want to live in Mexico.

I seem to recall there was a team in Montreal once. It didn't go so well.

Mexico City is 2,000 feet higher than Denver. Good luck ever signing a pitcher.

Yeah but shouldn't they be clearing up the politics in these places? Making sure the teams don't offend anyone?

I'd go with Mexico City and Montreal. Strengthen baseball in Canada and tap into all of the Mexican market.

Monterrey would be a better option in Mexico. Big time baseball city and not as far south.

MLBPA will be all over the Mexico shite.

Ain't no Players wanting to live in Mexico City.

Playing a few games a year, ok, 81 home games, LOL. Good luck getting anyone to sign there as a free agent.

There is no Law for christs sake in mexico. And i'm sure no plans on kidnapping players or family members of players would be in the works. Yeah, that doesn't happen in Mexico, with nobody joes already.

The Latin American/Caribbean players already have to worry about their loved ones getting kidnapped, in the countries they were born and still visit. Add Mexico for 81 home games. lol

I think Montreal should get a team back. I would say no to Mexico City and I don't know how much support Charlotte would get for a MLB team. Charlotte is really not a great sports town. I don't think anybody cares for the Hornets (esp. after they left the first time) and the Panthers get a lot of support when they are doing very well. Some other cities that I wonder about are: Nashville, Portland, Indianapolis, New Orleans, or maybe Oklahoma City. Seeing the Las Vegas has drawn in a NHL and NFL team, I wouldn't put pass someone trying to get a NBA or MLB team there in the future.

MLB has exhausted all the markets capable of supporting a franchise. It's a different ballgame when you have 81 home games. Expansion would be idiotic when they were considering contraction just 16 years ago.

Mexico City is an unapologetic shithole. No way that happens.

Two more teams of the best not starting now would be crap.

Then they would such away some young talent while still being crap and dilute the whole product.

Maybe the league being even numbers again would cut the continuous interleague crap.
