Going to take something crazy to beat these super teams. You need someone with relationships to get a 3rd star. You need someone who can recruit and bring players to Nola.

Calipari might be the best recruiter EVER on the collegiate level. He could potentially recruit John Wall and/or Eric Bledsoe. Make the Pels NBAUK.

This all but guarantees Davis and Cousins are here for a while.

Chris Paul still hasn't gotten out of the 2nd round.

Calipari's people contacted the Knicks, not the other way around.

There's a reason for that.

Dolan has a penchant for paying big names absurd amounts of money with no accountability.

Why coach and POBO that dumpster fire in an obvious rebuild when you could do 1/3 the work and get paid 8 figures?

Once Cal people contact a team, and the team refuses. Then we see him post on twitter that he didn't contact them. I think most of us agree that Cal is our best chance after this season to land us the 3rd superstar we need.

Why do people think giving Cal that much power is a good thing?

Caliper tried to get the job two years ago, and we quickly said, "Thanks but no thanks."

He had about 20 people try to call Benson and Loomis, including James freaking Carville.

That ship has sailed.

Who made the decision?

Based on your timeline I'm guessing this was right after Monty was fired?

Was it Demps? Loomis? Benson himself?

If Calipari wanted the job then, what's to say he wouldn't at least have a conversation now were he to be contacted? Is it personal? Hurt feelings?

I'd like to think someone in his position understands the business well enough to not take matters of business personally. Was he declined over money, wanting too much power or Pels just didn't want him?

Are those issues still in existence such that him becoming coach is a nonstarter?

I'm playing devil's advocate to a degree but I am genuinely curious now because I wasn't aware he ever sought the job in the first place.

Goddamnit. Seriously. Just goddamnit. This organization. Calipari isn't necessarily high up in my "pipe dream list", but I'd definitely take him and his connections over Dell Derps. I think people might understate how much ex-Kentucky players legitimately could have interest in playing with Cal/Davis/Boogie. His players fricking love the guy.

I'd be for it! He would be a 150% improvement over Gentry/Demps. The Pels could finally throw pace and space out the window and get someone that could run the team like they have the top two big men in the league.

What was the thinking behind refusing him? He's not a pushover who won't try to have things his way or no way?
