I travel a few times a year for work, so I don't need anything expensive, just looking for something to get the job done, preferably a spinner suitcase.

Searching on here it seems like Travelpro was the go to recommendation for value luggage. Any other brands to look out for? What places around BR have the best deals on luggage? Is there any reason to go for a hard-cover instead of a soft-cover if I'm only using it as a carry-on?

Right now, the Travelpro Maxlite 4 seems like a good deal for under $100 on Amazon, but I figured I'd see if there were any other recommendations from the board. TIA

I bought some luggage from Samsonite on sale, 4 pieces (2 check in and 2 carry on) for a few under 400.that was a great deal for me, 4 years later and several trips and it is still in great shape.

For less than 100 I'd get that Travelpro. I got a similar one for my SO and she likes it, although she's not sure she'd get another spinner.

For a non-spinner and just over your budget, I'd get an EC flatbed. We have several of the larger versions and they're great.

I believe the Costco Kirkland spinners are $99. They seem to change every few years. Mine is a hybrid that's hard on the back and soft on front/sides, but I believe last version I saw was soft all way around. I'm happy with mine.

Take a look at ebags.com, theres always stuff discounted and/or there's usually a coupon.

I bought 4 or 5 of the Travelpro Maxlite 4 pieces in the last year. They've survived two trips to DC & two transatlantic trips so far (carry on only; I never check). I got two international sized rollaboards; great, except that my shoulder complained after dragging the rollaboard long distances. So I gave it to a nephew & bought the international sized spinner. At first, I was afraid that the wheels on the spinner wouldn't be robust enough to handle long treks over irregular surfaces, but they have held up admirably so far.

To go w/the spinner, I got a tote-bag style travelpro piece from the crew line...I've used it twice, but don't especially like it. Too stiff/constructed, too heavy when empty, though it does have a padded tablet pocket and cord storage zipper pouch. It ended up being too large and bulky to use as a daily handbag while traveling; I had to bring a smaller, softsided purse rolled up inside.

I bought my better half the small, softsided tote, which fits beneath an airplane seat. It holds a surprising amount, and I think I'll get another one for myself.

So far, the Maxlite 4 has been durable, sturdy enough for carry on use and the occasional checking, and the medium blue color is distinctive enough to make it easy to find without being a loud novelty.

I used a lovely matched set of Tumi for years, until a trolley handle broke & Tumi would no longer fix it. Not so sure that Samsonite buying Tumi is doing much for the brand. But the Maxlite 4 is great quality for the price. Try luggagepros.com online....great post-sale customer service, as I bought a couple different sizes & returned in my quest to find "just enough" room for my usual stuff.

I'll throw in a rec for the Eagle Creek toiletry kits; lightweight, hanging hooks, unbreakable mirror, mesh pockets.

Ive had decent success finding deals at TJ Maxx. I just replaced a hard sided carry on spinner (for about $60) from Nautica after about 2 dozen trips I've had since 2013.

It was something like this

Eagle creek is nice, but don't know if you'll be under $100. Ebags has 30% off sending soon.
