How could another June 25 pass without remembering America's most famous soldier?

I guess I'm the only one, but, I think Custer was stupid and arrogant to get off his horses, form a circle and fight overwhelming numbers of Indians. I would have moved position to a favorable or better one, regroup to a winnable position, and fight to win later. Maybe even rejoining the other 2 groups for a larger winning battle.

At the risk of being a contrarian, I'd go with Washington, Lee, Grant, Eisenhower, and/or Patton as being more famous soldiers than Custer.

(I'd also add Bowie, Crockett, Travis, Austin, and Houston to my list, but I'm admittedly biased)

Not even close to the worst massacre of soldiers by Indians.

Visited in the mid-90's - still isn't shite out there by Little Bighorn.

We used to have this poster; my dad said it was in every bar in America back in the day - sponsored by Bud.

The best evidence suggests that Custer was crossing the river into the village with 5 companies when he was shot.

The soldiers scooped him up and withdrew several hundred yards up the hill. The Indians quickly massed on this force and annihilated it.

Earlier in the day he told one of the Crow scouts that he planned to attack that same afternoon. The scout told him, "Neither of us live to see the end of this day."

I find it ironic that you shite on the south about seceding from the Union but have no qualms about the slaughter of American Indians by American troops.

I understand a few people might not have heard of Custer...

mostly a few millennials - who were given an education based on feels.

So Custer was probably cut out of the curriculum.

You should sue your schools...they didn't give you an education; they gave you an indoctrination.

I mean honestly; if you don't know Custer's Last Stand...you are totally out of touch with not even American history but American pop culture history. That's like not knowing what the hell this is all about:

I would have more respect for him is he'd lead a bayonet charge into the face of the enemy.

Custer's arrogance was only matched by his inability to think strategically. Like the other people in this thread, Custer would not even make my top 10 list.

If you want the most famous soldier (not a general), then Sgt. York, Audie Murphy, & Pappy Boyington all come to mind.
