I remember being so angry before the goal because the referee had disallowed Dempsey's goal in the first half (I think for offside), which was the second goal in the tournament that we had wrongly disallowed.

Then Howard saved that header from Algeria, we countered, and the rest is history... Everyone in my house was glued to the TV, and when Donovan scored we all ran around the house uncontrollably.

Arguably the best moment in US soccer history, and it allowed us to win the group while condemning England to a cruel death at the hands of Germany.

England knew how we felt after Lampard's goal was disallowed.

I remember typing "its over" in a text message but seconds before I sent it I saw Howard with that throw to Donovan. Crazy shite that was.

Chills overkill. You could use jerry goldsmith's Rudy or Hoosiers score during a womens sporting event and I'd still get chills.

Also, I'd rather the World Cup be in Qatar until the end of time than have to listen to another WC with those goddamned vuvuzelas. Such a disgrace.

I will fully admit that that moment is when I became a lifelong soccer fan. That World Cup is when I started following soccer and that moment was something so special.

Every USA player involved in that play will be in the US soccer Hall of Fame and will be/are US soccer legends; Howard, Altidore, Dempsey and Donovan. Stolen from pointy football, "its not the x's and o's but the Jimmy's and the Joe's". Great players leave their mark on games.

So underrated in that whole sequence of events is Donovan's first touch from Howard. He never broke stride going full speed and kept the pressure on that defense

I was legit depressed pooping when this happened in a bar in Prague.

My friends tore down the projector by accident during the goal.

Probably the most epic sporting event I've ever watched live. It was insanity and EVERYONE in the bar was rooting for the good guys.

I watched this match with a friend in the ESPN Club in Disney World. Before the goal it was basically just a room full of depression. When the goal went in, the place went absolutely nuts. I've never heard a sports bar so loud. Our match was playing in the larger room while the England match and a ton of English tourists were in the smaller room. Most of them came running over to see what the hell happened.

Maurice Edu's disallowed goal against Slovenia was really terrible too.

Moment i fell in love with soccer. I remember the rest of the family was watching pride and prejudice and forced me to go to the garage. I spilt my popcorn everywhere when it happened.

In hindsight, we ended up 1st in the group anyway, but I still get irrationally angry when I watch highlights from that game. It is just mind boggling how the biggest sporting event in the world can have an official call some sort of infringement and nobody has any idea what the call actually is. Unless I just missed it all these years, there is literally no explanation. That bug-eyed bastard just runs away from the box ignoring everyone. The replay shows everyone was clearly onside. The only possibility for a foul was by the Slovenia players holding US players.

God damn, it's just so infuriating. It would have been probably a top 3 US game of all time coming back to win 3-2 after being down 2-0. Instead, it's a mostly forgotten game after the way the Algeria game went down.

Remember perfectly to this day. About 10-15 of us watching at work and we all went ballistic running around the office.

True. The ref Solomon Koolabali or whateverthefrick his name was, was clearly a biased and overwhelmed idiot.

I bet an American watching soccer for the first time who is accustomed to NFL referees like Ed Hochuli giving the crowd a dissertation on the penalty was shocked at how they do it in soccer

They should have the 4th official announce the calls. Play doesn't have to stop. Center ref can relay the message through the headset.
