What happened to all the Ford Escorts that used to be on the roads?

These things were everywhere. I assume most of them have been recycled into Kias and Chinese bridges by now?
As an aside: I imagine it would be very difficult to restore a 'non-enthusiast' car like this to factory new condition.

Who knew the Ford Escort wouldn't end up being a classic

I'm a Chevy guy and still see those ugly lumina's on the road with all the paint gone.

I knew someone who had a pretty long commute in to work in Baton Rouge, and they bought one as a cheap ride that would save on gas.
The reason I remember it is the damned thing had no AC! That went a little far in the money-saving department for me.

They all sucked and littered junk yards everywhere.

As soon as one was driven off the lot, the car's actual cash value depreciated below the scrap value.

They were Found On Roadside Dead.

I seen a lot them in the road back then.
My wife had 1989 hatchback that we finally sold in 1995. It was a decent car for the money. We bought hers the same time I bought my 1989 Ford Ranger 4x4.
Funniest thing I saw was four heavy weights get out of one on a military base I was stationed at. Once they got out the car raised up about 8 inches.

Those and the Ford Taurus of that time. Everywhere. Now it's the Toyota Camry.

Did driver's ed in one of those. God, it sucked. Damned thing could barely get to 60 mph to get onto the interstate.

No Lie - Good friend of mine had one while at LSU, it was stolen and then recovered south of San Antonio, Tx headed south.
Piece of shite overheated, he went and got it and drove it around Baton rouge for 4 more years.

I can only guess that most are in car museums.

I don't believe Escorts have been made in many years. All the older ones are gone due to end of life.

I had one, did alright, but I can't imagine anybody wanting a used one.
and 40 years from now is any of the plastic shite they make now going to be "classic"?

I had a wagon years ago that was a pretty decent car, even kept it as a beater for a while then gave it to a place that refurbs cars for homeless vets.
In a related note: These 90's cherokees are all over the place, and some of them honestly look good when they're fixed up.

I had a 1986 Mercury Lynx. My first new car. $6084, standard, no air.
