Why is there a negative stigma about eating horse in the US?

I mean we raise pigs, cows, and chickens so we can slaughter them for meat. Why don't we raise horses for the same purpose. Hell we could round up all the exploding population of wild ones in the western US. You'd know they be free range animals.

What is the deal on why we don't eat it. People don't want to eat such a majestic animal, religious beliefs, you don't eat a pet. I'm not advocating let's go 100% in on horse meat but at least make it a legit option for people.

Our country was built on the back of the horse. It just ain't right. Same with our dogs.

I see no problem with it at all. As a matter of fact I would like to try some.

Supposedly, like dog, it doesn't taste very good

Although this can be cultural -- the reason we have cowboys and Big Macs and Ruth Chris is b/c whites prefer the taste of beef. Apparently Indians for some reason preferred buffalo.

If they are raised for it, fine.

Every horse not raised specifically for meat is given drugs that are not for human consumption. Even backyard horses. Hell, my pet horse is regularly given 5 or 6.

Plus, they're pretty

Horses have been sources of transportation, farm cultivation, pleasure, sport, entertainment, battle, etc. They have brought a lot more to the table than just the taste of their meat and have earned the right not to be a food source for us.

Horses have better personality than half of all people.

I will not eat it out of respect and admiration for the species.
