I have several different pistols to choose from.
I sometimes carry my .40 when I travel and sometimes tuck my 380 in the back of my waistband holster when I'm out in public.

I also have a few different revolvers in different calibers.

Which would be best to bring to class as far as comfort and qualifying at the range?

bring something more full sized. zero reason the gun to shoot at range needs to be a cc sized gun.

Bring the one you shoot best. You only have to shoot 36 rounds.

A .22 target pistol

It's quite funny.

To put all the holes in a dime.

I always recommend training with what you carry.

it isn't really a training course, you are just shooting abunch of rounds at a target. You aren't doing any drawing etc in the training.

LA lets you quality with a 22LR? I know TN doesn't.

Yeah, you just have to show them you are somewhat proficient with a firearm and you know how to do a reload (I think you have to do 2 or 3 reloads).

Pro tip: don't go in there expecting them to show you how to use a gun.

I brought my LC9 that I had at the time. Don't over think it. You don't have to have tight groups or anything to qualify. There was a backwoods lady shooting next to me who pulled out a 44 mag. Didn't notice what she pulled out, so it scared the hell out of my when she took her first shot .

Yes, Louisiana does.

I don't allow them (nor do I allow other poodle shooter calibers) in my classes unless someone has a medical condition that preclude their shooting a .38 Special or a 9mm.

IMO the shooting portion of a CCW class isn't a test (It's far too rudimentary to be called a test). It's an exercise to prove that you can safely handle a handgun. Oh, and you have to hit a man-sized silhouette 36 times (12 shots at 6 ft., 12 at 10 ft. and 12 at 15 ft.)

Response to OP -- when you say "sometimes tuck my .380 in the back of my waistband holster when I'm out in public, ," I assume you're taking a renewal class ?? What gun did you take to your previous class(es)?

Virginia doesn't even require you to fire a single round to get your CHP

Doesn't matter but most instructors recommend a semi auto as long as you are used to shooting one. Some folks have trouble with a double action and accuracy.

Oh, that's different - any caliber Jennings is GTG.
