That's my next step. I live in Baton Rouge and there's an event called the parade of homes that showcases a bunch of builders in the area. My wife and I probably saw 20 houses from a dozen builders. I really wanted to speak to them which I did.
Most, if not all, said if I needed an architect they could help but if I bring my own plans that they would still build for me. So after I get all my prints done I'll ask the builders I like to bid on the job.
Sorry if I sound clueless. I'm trying to learn as much as I can lol

When people say cost per SF, does that include land?
Typically when said as "building", no. "Buying" obviously would include the land.

Newdude, my brother is a contractor in BR. If you are looking for any help, I can give you his info.

We just be completed building a custom home in BR designed by an architect. We paid double what you mentioned per square foot, but have an amazingly beautiful home now. We got screwed by the flood and had to start over since we flooded, so thats a small part of the reason for our price per square foot. The other is because of the finishes, floors, windows, cabinets (blew that out of the water), appliances, etc. If you don't mind everything being pretty standard and basic, I'm sure you could do it for $120 or so.
ETA: our price per square foot included our lot.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Glad it's all over and your house is complete. A lot of my family flooded out. Many still working on getting everything back in order.
My price would not include the lot

To be honest, I can see myself spending that much if I really wanted to. Between custom shite, nice appliances and fixtures could set me well over $150. Good BR property is so freakin high, I don't blame my coworkers from out of town for raising an eyebrow when I tell them how much I paid for my half acre
