Strall?
Naw, he's been here 3 years, Mainieri won't do that to him.

Well he's also more valuable than Kiel or Frederick for the post-season as well. Kiel just cant control anything. Frederick isn't much different and is only a freshman.
Strall is pretty bad but in a game that's something like 10-1 in the 7th or 8th he can eat up an inning and pump in strikes. If he gives up a few runs no big deal. At least he wont have a meltdown by not being able to pitch strikes like Kiel or Frederick might.

I think if you look at the roster right now these are the guys not making the cut for sure:
Cole McKay - Already gone isn't he?
Doug Norman - Injury
Bryce Jordan - Injury
Mason Templet - Never played, going to summer league early
Hunter Kiel - Already leaving to focus on draft, no control
Bryce Adams - Provides little added value as a 1st baseman, strikes out way too easily as DH/PH
Blair Frederick - Control issues, headed to summer league, only a freshman
Those 7 cuts the roster on LSUsports.net from 34 down to 27.
The only one that was probably a little tough to leave behind was Adams, but his value is pretty much limited to a scenario where we need a dinger because we're down. Basically his value is as a PH strictly.

It's weird that McKay is still on the roster, but Cartwright isn't.

I also find that strange.

Breaux is a fast guy on the bench;
Correct, and why I said we needed another fast guy on the bench. A close game might call for two pinch runners and we are limited.
quote:
Reid, in theory, is the lefty DH/PH candidate
Theories don't win games, Reid has not flourished in the role as a pinch hitter in limited opportunities; nor has he done much in limited starts as a DH.
Often Beau J looks overmatched against hard throwing righties with a good slider. The same applies to Romero, Slaughter and Woley. Against that type pitcher a good left handed bat would work.

LSU has not recruited or developed a lefty besides Bush...
And Bush coming on some helps, without him there would be no one.
quote:
Woley and Romero will never be confused for their speed, but they are good bats to have as backups this postseason
I like Romero more than anyone, but against righties with a good breaking ball, he struggles.
