What is the difference in the state champions for the 'A' classes (5a, 4a, etc) and the Division state champions?
I see that a school can be 5a, but win a Division 1 state championship?
Is this determined preseason? Is this like Texas 6A-Division 1 and Division 2? Is it enrollment based? Is this a private/public school distinction? I'm just curious why they have what seems to be two different categories of champions.

It's a Public/Private split. It isn't an enrollment split like Texas. All private schools & open enrollment public schools are separated from the public schools once the playoffs start.
The open enrollment public schools are magnet schools or any public school that can pull students from a wider area than a standard school district.
It's intended to address complaints from some public schools about unfair advantages and recruiting from private & magnet schools, but it's a complete cluster.

I'll put it this way...imagine Hillary Clinton's campaign committee organizing a football association. That should give you a pretty good idea.

That topic shall be investigated after a final concrete decision is made on how the universe came about, what definitively killed the dinosaurs, and how the female mind works.
Must take care of the easier topics first.
